4. Two similar conical solids have surface areas of 4800 𝑐𝑚2 and 768 𝑐𝑚2 respectively. Find the volume of the
smaller cone if the larger one has a volume 5500 𝑐𝑚3. (3 marks)
5. Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only, construct a triangle PQR such that 𝑃𝑄 =7.5𝑐𝑚, 𝑃𝑅=8.3𝑐𝑚 and
angle 𝑅𝑃𝑄=37.5°. Drop a perpendicular from R to cut PQ at M. measure RM. (4 marks)
6. Omondi sells a reconditioned car to Kuria and makes a profit of 15%. Kuria then sells the same car to Isa at
Ksh. 300 000 making a loss of 10%. At what price did Omondi buy the car? (3 marks)

8. Given that 𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝑥 = 0.8, without using a mathematical table or a calculator find tan (90−𝑥). (3 marks)
9. A seven sided polygon has three of its angles equal to 𝜃 and the other angles are
(2𝜃 − 30),(𝜃 + 28),3(𝜃 − 4) 𝑎𝑛𝑑 (126 − 𝜃). Calculate the value of 𝜃. (3 marks)
10. Mutua bought 4 pairs of trousers and 5 shirts at Sh. 4 160. Had he bought twice as many shirts and half as
many trousers, he would have saved Sh. 160. Find the cost of each item. (3 marks)

16. Juma left his home at 8.30 a.m. He drove a distance of 140 km and arrived at his aunt’s home at 10.15 a.m.
Determine the average speed, in km/h, for Juma’s journey. (3 marks)
17. The points A and B have coordinates (−4,7) and (6,2) respectively. A straight line 𝐿1 passes through A and
B.
a) Find the equation of L2 the perpendicular bisector of line AB. (3 marks)
b) A third line 𝐿3, which is parallel to line 𝐿1 passes through the point (2,1). Find the equation of 𝐿3 giving
your answer in the form 𝑎𝑥+𝑏𝑦+𝑐 = 0. (2 marks)
c) Given that line 𝐿1 intersects a fourth line 𝐿4 whose equation is 4𝑥+3𝑦=20, find the coordinates of their point
of intersection. (3 marks)
d) Find the acute angle between line 𝐿1 and the y-axis (2 marks)

19. Triangle ABC with vertices 𝐴(1,4), 𝐵(1,1) and 𝐶(3,1) is mapped onto triangle A′(5,8), B′(2,8) and C′(2,6) by
rotation. Triangle 𝐴′𝐵′𝐶′ is mapped onto triangle 𝐴′′𝐵′′𝐶′′ by a reflection on the mirror line 𝑥+𝑦=6.
a) On the grid provided, draw the axes for the range of x from −4 to 7 and y from −2 to 10 taking 1 cm to

20. Four towns A,B,C and D are such that B is on a bearing of 247° and 6km from A. C is due S 22.5ᵒE and
4.8km from B. D is to the south of A and the bearing of C from D is 𝑆44°𝑊.

21. The figure below shows a model of a solid in the shape of a frustum of a cone with a hemispherical top.
The diameter of the hemispherical top is 70cm and is equal to the diameter of the top of the frustum. The
frustum has a base diameter of 28cm and a slant height of 60 cm.
a) Calculate the area of the hemispherical surface. (1 mark)
b) Calculate the slant height of the cone from which the frustum was cut. (2 marks)

22. Mr. Kamau, a salesman is paid a commission of 6% on goods worth over sh. 600,000. In addition he is paid
a monthly salary of sh. 35,000.
(a) Calculate his total earnings in a month when his total sales was sh. 750,000. (3 marks)
(b) In the following month, the rate of commission was changed to 𝑥 % but his monthly salary remained the
same. If Mr. Kamau received a total monthly earning of sh. 100,000 for selling goods worth the same amount,
find the value of 𝑥. (3 marks)
(c) If the rate of commission in (b) above was reduced in the ration 3:4 and his monthly increased by 10%, find
the percentage change in his total monthly earnings for selling the same amount of goods. (4 marks)

23. Five members of ‘SILK’, a self-supporting enterprise Jane, Jepchoge, Esther, Mama Charo and Chepkoech
were given a certain amount of money to share amongst themselves. Jane got 38 of the total amount while
Jepchoge got 25 of the remainder. The remaining amount was shared equally among Esther, Mama Charo and
Chepkoech each of which received Ksh. 6,000;
(a) How much was shared among the five business women? (3 marks)
(c) Jane, Jepchoge and Chepkoech invested their money and earned a profit of Ksh. 12,000. A third of the profit
was left to maintain the business and the rest was shared according to their investments. Find how much each
got. (5 marks)

24. Two vertical columns A and B of height h and 2h respectively stand on level ground and are 100m apart.
Two points P and Q are d metres apart, the elevation of the top of A and B from point P are 35ᵒ and 28ᵒ
respectively and the elevation of top of B from point Q is 75ᵒ
