General Information
• Ferries can accommodate motorcycles and any size car, trailer or recreational vehicle that can operate on the highway.
Special permits are available for vehicles over 65 feet.
• Service is provided 365 days a year on all routes except the passenger ferry. Weather conditions, such as tides, winds and
heavy rain can affect travel.
• Vending machines are on many ferries and at most ferry terminals. The Ferry Division does not serve meals on any route.

• Restroom facilities are at each ferry terminal and on vessels. Restrooms that meet the American's with Disabilities Act
accessibility requirements are at all terminals and on some vessels meals on any route.

• Pets are permitted on ferries, but they must be kept in vehicles or on leashes at all times, and owners must clean up after
them. Horses must be transported in a horse trailer. Only service animals are allowed inside Ferry Visitor Centers or Ferry

Since July 1 2004, the Ferry Division has been operating under the U.S. Coast Guard Ferry Division Administrative Offices
Maritime Transportation Security Act. As part of this act, passengers may be asked for 8550 Shipyard Road
photo identification and vehicles may be subject to random screening prior to boarding. Manns Harbor, NC 27953
