The Orchard of Echoes

Deep within an ancient forest, there was an orchard unlike any other. Its trees bore no
ordinary fruit but glimmering, translucent orbs that hummed softly in the breeze. Each orb
contained a single sound—a laugh, a sigh, a word.

Villagers whispered that the orchard had grown from seeds scattered by a sorrowful god, each
one planted with a memory too painful to bear. Anyone who plucked an orb would hear the
sound and be transported into the moment it was born.

One day, a traveler named Jorun stumbled upon the orchard. Weary and lost, he reached for
an orb glowing a soft gold. A woman’s laugh filled the air, light and carefree. As it washed
over him, Jorun saw her—a stranger, yet somehow familiar. She stood in a field of
wildflowers, turning to smile at him before the vision faded.

Compelled, he stayed in the orchard, plucking orb after orb, piecing together fragments of her
life. Days turned to weeks as he searched for her face in every echo.

But when he finally left the orchard, he realized he had forgotten the sound of his own voice.
