Text: Watching television.
Television or TV for short is one of the mass media. Television is accessible to
households with low incomes. But some families can't still buy a TV set because they don't have
enough money... Watching television has integrated our daily routine and has impacted our
lives. It plays various functions. People watch TV for information, instructions and
entertainment.
In Africa and in Benin particularly, people usually gather in their living rooms to watch
television. They watch it while eating, while having some guests around or while having a rest.
They watch various programs on the national TV channels (ORTB, Golfe TV, Canal 3, E-Télé,
Eden TV, TVC, etc) and the foreign channels (TV 5 Monde, France 24 , Africa 24, CNN, etc). But
some TV channels are thematic. They deal with specific programs only. For instance, National
Geographic is a documentary TV channels, Novelas TV deals with soap operas. Besides, Boom
TV plays music only whereas Canal + Sport broadcasts sport shows.
Women and teenagers like watching television; they watch all sorts of programs.
Unfortunately, all the programs are not good for teenagers. Some TV programs are only adult
matters because they contain sex issues and scenes of violence.
