    Dolly Ahluwalia

    She is alumni of National School of Drama graduating in 1979. Ahluwalia started


    her career by designing costumes for theatre. Thereafter she started film career
    with Shekhar Kapur's Bandit Queen in 1993, which got her first National Film
    Award for Best Costume Design.
    Dolly Ahluwalia has made many contributions to theater, including:
     Costume design
    She has designed costumes for over 70 theater productions, including Tuglaq,
    Agni aur Barkha, Andha Yug, Seagull, and Umrao. She is alumni of National
    School of Drama graduating in 1979. Ahluwalia started her career by designing
    costumes for theatre. Thereafter she started film career with Shekhar
    Kapur's Bandit Queen in 1993, which got her first National Film Award for Best
    Costume Design. Thereafter she designed for notable directors like Vishal
    Bhardwaj in The Blue Umbrella (2005), Omkara (2006), Blood
    Brothers (2007), Kaminey (2009) and Haider (2014), with Deepa
    Mehta in Water (2005) and Midnight's Children (2012). Besides working with
    mainstream Bollywood films like Love Aaj Kal (2009), Luv Shuv Tey Chicken
    Khurana (2012) and with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra in Bhaag Milkha
    Bhaag (2013).
    She has also designed costumes for television productions like Zameen,
    Tanhaiyan, Titli, and Vapsi.
     Acting
    She acted in leading roles in plays like Surya ki Antim Kiran se Surya ki Pehli
    Kiran Tak, Mahabhoj, Macbeth, Virasat, and Umrao. She also acted in many
    teleplays, telefilms, and serials. She was awarded as Best Supporting
    Actress for Vicky Donor (2012), which is also her best known role as an actress.

     Teaching
    She has served as a visiting faculty member at the National School of Drama
    (NSD), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), National Institute of
    Technology (NIT), Bhartendu Natya Akademi (BNA), and the Department of
    Indian Theatre.
     Workshops
    She has conducted many theater workshops across India.

     Sangeet Natak Akademi Award
    She won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to theater as a
    costume designer.
    Ahluwalia is also a well-known costume designer for film, having won the
    National Film Award for Best Costume Design twice for Bandit Queen and
    Haider.
