General Information:
The Apprentice Standards require all applicants must:

• reach 18 years of age at the time they are accepted into the apprenticeship program.

• be physically able to perform the work required as judged by the Joint Apprenticeship
and Training Committee or their representative.

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee may require the applicant to submit to a drug and
alcohol screen as part of the application process and after acceptance as an apprentice to an
examination by a physician of the Committee’s choice.

All applicants have one year to complete the application process. Any applicant that doesn’t
complete the application process in the allotted time period will be disqualified and must start the
entire application process over. No refunds for the application fee will be returned.
All applicants that do not appear for their first scheduled aptitude test date must come to the Training
Center and sign for a second aptitude test date. Failure to attend the second test date will disqualify
the applicant and a new application must be submitted. When submitting a new application the entire
process must be successfully completed. The training center will not transfer previously submitted
documents from a previous application to a new application.

Aptitude Testing
An outside consultant administers and grades the aptitude test that is approved by the State of
Pennsylvania. Only applicants that receive a high score will continue in the process and receive an
interview.

Applicants that do not receive a high score from participation in the aptitude test date will be given a
second opportunity to take the aptitude test. The applicant must come to the Training Center on the
second Monday of any month and sign for their new test date. Failure to receive a high score after
participating in the second aptitude test will disqualify an applicant from making application for one
year from the date of the second aptitude test date.

All aptitude testing will be done during the normal working hours of the Training Center. Aptitude
tests will be administered three times a year.

All applicant interviews will be done during the normal working hours of the Training Center.
Interviews will be held twice a year.

Each part of the application process is scored. These scores from the application, testing and
interview process are added together to create a composite score. The composite scores will be
compiled at the end of each interview process and a list will be generated from the highest score to
the lowest score. When the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee receives applications for
apprentices from the employers, a letter of acceptance will be sent to the candidates, starting with the
highest score and continue down the list until the employer requirements are met. The candidates that
remain on the list will move up the list for placement until the next interview process is completed
and those new scores will be incorporated into the existing list of candidates. A new ranking list will
be generated combining those candidates that remain on the list and the new candidates that complete
the interview process. Remember candidates will remain on the selection list for two years from their
interview date.

Please note: Your placement on the candidate rank list will remain for two years starting with the
interview date. If you have not been selected to enter the apprenticeship program during the two-year
period that you have been on the candidate list, you can request another interview by writing a letter
to the Training Center thus initiating another two year period from the new interview date.
