22. The term ‘ore’ is used to describe an accumulation of any mineral mixed with other
elements
OR
In sedimentary rocks, numbers of minerals occur in beds or layers. They have been formed
as a result of deposition, accumulation and concentration in horizontal strata. For example,
coal, and iron ore.
23. The value of final goods and services produced in each sector during a particular year
provides the total production for that year.

24. The result of the division of labour is that although women constitute half of humanity,
their role in public life, especially politics, is minimal in most societies.

25. For the plantation workers of Assam, “Swaraj” meant freedom to move freely in and out
of the confined space in which they all were enclosed and also to be able to keep the link
with their native village intact. Under the Inland Emigration Act of 1859, plantation workers
were not allowed to leave their tea gardens without permission, which they were rarely given

26. Means of transport include all kinds of vehicles, trains, aeroplanes and ships. Means of
transport are used for the movement of people, goods and services from one place to another.
These are developed on three important domains of the earth, i.e., land, water and air. Based
on these, transport can also be classified into the land, water and air transport.
27. Primary, secondary and tertiary sectors are interdependent as mentioned below :
1. When we produce goods by exploiting natural resources, it is an activity of the
primary sector. It is primary because it forms the base for all other products that
we subsequently make.
2. The secondary sector covers activities in which natural products are changed
into other forms manually or by machines. For example wheat is used to
manufacture bread. So there is mutual dependency between primary and
secondary sectors.
3. The activities that help in the development of the primary and secondary sectors
fall under the tertiary sector. These activities by themselves do not produce a
good but they are an aid or a support for the production process. Transport,
storage, communication and banking are some examples of tertiary activities.

OR

1. The primary sector involves production at the most basic level, i.e., through
exploitation of natural resources. Cultivation of sugarcane is an agricultural activity
which comes under the primary sector. Raw materials from the primary sector are
converted into processed goods through manufacturing in the secondary sector. Using
sugarcane as raw material, jaggery and sugar is made in the factories. The tertiary or
service sector provides support to the process of production. It includes transportation,
storage, marketing and sale of products. For instance, transportation of sugarcane
from the fields to the sugar mills. Further on, the transportation of jaggery and sugar
from factories and sugar mills to the markets.
2. The farmer (Primary sector) also needs fertilisers and seeds which are processed in
some factory (Secondary sector) and which will be delivered to his doorstep by some
means of transportation (Tertiary sector). In this way, for every little process there is
interdependence of the three sectors of the economy on each other.
3.

28. In the last few years, our markets have been transformed as mentioned below :
● There is a wide choice of goods and services in the markets.
● The latest models of digital cameras, mobile phones and televisions made by
the leading manufacturers of the world are available in the markets. Not only
this these products are affordable and within reach of the people.

Thus a few years back, there were only few brands of different goods in the markets. A
consumer did not have real choice and had no option to purchase a particular brand. But now
he has a number of options between Indian as well as foreign brands.

OR
● Under this process, goods and services along with capital, resources and technology
can move freely from one nation to another.
● It has increased the movement of people between countries. People usually move
from one country to another in search of better income, better jobs or better education.
Earlier the movement of people between countries was less due to various restrictions.
● Rapid improvement in technology has been one major factor that has stimulated the
globalization
process. For instance, advancement in transportation technology has made much
faster delivery of goods across long distances possible at lower costs. Container
services have led to a huge reduction in port handling costs. The cost of air transport
has fallen which has enabled much greater volumes of goods to be transported by
airlines.

29. In a democracy, the political expression of social divisions is very normal and can be
healthy. This allows variously disadvantaged and marginal social groups to express their
grievances and get the government to attend to these.
Taking the examples of Belgium and Sri Lanka, if the rulers are willing to share power and
accommodate the reasonable demands of the minority community, social divisions become
less threatening to the country. In fact, it may prove healthy for a democracy.

30. The reactions of the local peoples in the conquered territories by the French were mixed.
In the beginning, in Holland, Switzerland, Brussels, Mainz, Milan and Warsaw, people
welcomed the French armies as harbingers of liberty. Political freedom was advantageous but
more taxes, censorship and forced conscription into the French armies for conquering the rest
of Europe made the local population hostile to them because it became clear that the new
administrative arrangements did not go hand in hand with political freedom. Increased
taxation, censorship, and forced conscription into the French armies required to conquer the
rest of Europe, all seemed to outweigh the advantages of the administrative changes.
OR
In Sorrieu’s paintings, the ‘Statue of Liberty is personified as women bearing the Torch of
Enlightenment in one hand and the Charter of Rights in the other. The statue signifies the rise
of nationalism to establish nation-states based on democratic principles with inalienable
human rights.
31. Manufacturing is referred to as the production of goods in large quantities after
processing from raw materials to more valuable products is called manufacturing.
Manufacturing belongs to the secondary sector in which the primary materials are processed
and converted into finished goods.
32. We need to expand formal sources of credit in India:
1. To reduce dependence on informal sources of credit because the latter charge high
interest rates and do not benefit the borrower much.
2. The Reserve Bank of India supervises the functioning of formal sources of loans. In
contrast, there is no organisation which supervises the functioning of informal source
of loans or the credit activities of lenders in the informal sector.
3. After taking loans from informal lenders sometimes, leads the borrowers to debt trap
because of the high interest rates.
In India, the formal sector sources of credit are still only about half of the total credit needs of
the rural people. Thus, it is necessary for the formal sources of credit to expand their lending
especially in rural areas, so that the dependency on the formal sources of credit are increased,
which would benefit the development of the country on a wider scale.
33.Political expression of social divisions can be healthy and is very normal in a democracy.
This proves as a bridge of understanding between various disadvantaged and marginal social
groups, as it allows expressing their grievances and getting the government to attend those
aspects at the earliest.

When one social group expresses itself, it challenges the other groups to do the same.
Democracy is strengthened by this .

But a positive attitude towards diversity and a willingness to accommodate does not come
about easily. People who feel segregated must fight this. This fight should take the
democratic path, and the people should voice their demands in a peaceful and constitutional
manner and seek a fair position through elections.
