Questions 37 to 39 are case-based/data-based questions.
37. Refining is the process of purifying metals, with electrolysis being a
key method. In electrolysis, electrical energy drives a non-spontaneous
redox reaction by passing an electric current through an ion-containing
liquid called an electrolyte. Unlike in metals, the current in electrolytes is
carried by ion movement rather than electron flow. Solid conductors,
called electrodes, are put into the liquid; the positively charged
electrode, called the anode, attracts anions, while the negatively charged
electrode, known as the cathode, attracts cations.

38. Blood is a fluid connective tissue that circulates throughout our body
4 and delivers essential substances like oxygen to the body cells. It also

compulsory.

A ray of light that travels obliquely from one transparent medium into
another of different refractive index, changes its direction in the second
medium. The extent of change in direction that takes place in a given pair
of media is expressed in terms of the refractive index.
The refractive index can be linked to the relative speed of propagation of
light in different media. It turns out that light propagates with different
speed in different media. Light travels fastest in vacuum with a speed of
3x108 m/s. In air, the speed of light is only marginally less, compared to
that in vacuum. It reduces considerably in glass and water. Following
table gives the numerical value of absolute refractive indices of several
transparent media.
Study the Refractive Indices of transparent media given in the above
table and answer the following:
Subparts a and b are compulsory. Attempt either subpart c or d
