1. Background

“Shipskart: From Seafarers’ Pain Points to E-commerce Innovation”

ShipsKart’s story has its roots in the lived experiences of the maritime industry. Founded in 2016
by Dhruv Sawhney, Vivek Sahi, and Abhimanyu Sheshashayee, all with extensive maritime
backgrounds, the company emerged from a deep understanding of the frustrations and inefficiencies
plaguing traditional procurement for seafarers.

Early Days: Identifying the Need

During their time at sea, the founders witnessed firsthand the cumbersome, time-consuming, and
often opaque process of ordering essential supplies for vessels. Limited vendor options, inflated
prices, and mountains of paperwork made it a logistical nightmare. It was clear that the maritime
industry, despite its vital role in global trade, was lagging in adopting modern procurement
practices.

Solution-Focused Innovation

Fueled by their firsthand experience and a

passion for solving these problems, the founders
envisioned a digital platform that would
revolutionize maritime procurement. Shipskart
was born, aiming to:

1. Bridge the gap between the digital world and

the maritime industry: By leveraging e-
commerce technology, Shipskart would create a
user-friendly online marketplace where seafarers could order supplies with just a few clicks.
3

2. Increase transparency and fairness: Competitive pricing, vendor selection tools, and clear
transaction tracking would eliminate the opacity and potential for bias prevalent in traditional
procurement.

3. Streamline the process: From purchase requisitions to vendor selection and delivery, Shipskart
would handle the entire process, significantly reducing the administrative burden for crew and
shoreside personnel.

4. Ensure global reach and localized support: With a network of trusted vendors spanning various
ports worldwide, Shipskart would guarantee prompt deliveries and on-the-ground assistance
wherever a vessel sailed.

Growth and Impact:

Since its inception, Shipskart has grown rapidly, establishing itself as a major player in the maritime
e-commerce space. The company has secured significant funding, expanded its global reach, and
gained recognition for its innovative approach. Today, Shipskart boasts a diverse inventory of over
50,000 products, caters to vessels across various sectors, and collaborates with a network of reliable
vendors across the globe.

Beyond Convenience: A Focus on Sustainability:
