1. Director’s profile:
Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur, Director, SLS, Pune, Dean, Faculty of Law, SIU, Jean Monnet
Chair Professor (EUC- LAMP co-founded by EU) has an illustrious career spanning over 32
years of experience in teaching, research and industry and leading the Law School on the path
of excellence since 2007. She is a distinguished academician and orator. She has received her
formal schooling in Kannada medium in Gurpur, she holds degrees in science and law from
Mangalore University. Dr. Gurpur received LLM as topper and gold medallist, and also her
Ph.D. in International Law from Mysore University. She is featured amongst the illustrious 100
women personalities in the book namely ‘The Phenomenal She ' launched by the Indian
National Bar Association on 7th March 2022 and was listed among 100 legal luminaries of
India in 2016 by Lexis Nexis. Dr. Shashikala Gurpur has been conferred the
Annual Kittur Rani Chennamma Award, 2018-19 by the Government of Karnataka for her
excellent achievement in the field of education and contribution to women empowerment. Dr.
Gurpur has more than 93 publications (29 Scopus/WoS), 16 Book Chapters and presented more
than 330 invited lectures, workshops and seminars across India, Thailand, US, UK, Ireland,
Germany, Australia, Canada and UAE. She is a pioneer of EU Legal Studies in India and was
invited to serve on the selection committee of the 2022-23 Fulbright-Nehru Visiting Chair
Program of Emory University by USIEF.
She is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at The West Bengal National University of Juridical
Sciences, member of the Academic Council at Maharashtra National Law University,
Aurangabad, resource person at NJA, Bhopal and PhD referee to many NLUs, JNU and many
state universities. She is awarded with the most coveted professional achievement,' Jean

Monnet Chair Professor for EU Climate Justice Law, Governance, Management and Policy
(EUC-LAMP)' Co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. She is team
member of global evaluation and accreditation IALS, USA. She has guided 15 PhD, 100+
Master’s Thesis, and currently, she is guiding eight Ph.D. students. She is a lead in the SPARC
project, 4 EU Grants, NADFM training, and the MCCIA committee, Confederation of Indian
Industry (CII), and a member of Sector Specific Group for "Digital and Creative Economy
(DCE) in Government of India, Ministry of Education Department of Higher Education.

soaring to new heights in excellence and quality. Students of Symbiosis Law School Pune have
been consistently participating and winning in various International Moot Court Competitions
such as Oxford Price Media Law Moot Court Competition 2021, 25th Annual Stetson
Environment Law Moot Competitions, 21st Willem C. Vis International Commercial
Arbitration Moot Court Competition (Hong Kong), 2024.
SLS, Pune has several impressive active international collaborations across prestigious
international universities. SLS Pune has proactively engaged with Arizona University, New
Hampshire University, Washburn University, Seattle University, Pepperdine University,
Waikato University, Bristol University, Vienna University of Economics and Business, and
Shastri-Indo-Canadian Institute, Berlin School of Economics and Law, University of Cologne,
Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences to name a few.
The collaboration have facilitated student-faculty mobility, participation in summer school, and
organization of conferences, guest sessions, webinars, and research projects. SLS Pune has
showcased a strong research culture along with an internationalization agenda that has resulted

in successful project applications under the Erasmus + program of the EU. SLS, Pune had the
unique distinction of being the only Indian partner with the Erasmus Mundus Global
Consortium of Law Schools since 2008. SLS, Pune has been the recipient of four Erasmus+
CBHE KA2 under EU projects namely EURASIA, 21 Teach Skills Training, Climate Change
Policy and Law, and International Law and Forced Migration.
The aim of the EURASIA project was to develop the capacity of faculty members in India and
China in relation to European Studies by enhancing faculty mobility, developing courses
focused on European Studies and incorporating the best practices of European and Asian
Universities.
SLS, Pune is a consortium partner of the ‘21st Century Teach Skills project’ which is related
to the ‘Teacher’s Training with specialization on Life and IT skills’. As a part of this project,
SLS Pune has developed 10 ECTS Certificate Programme on ‘Critical Thinking Skills’ and
‘Collaborative Problem-Solving Skills and 21st Century Skills.
On the National front, SLS Pune has SPARC Project. SLS Pune has also undertaken the
following projects under the Indian Council of Social Science Research related to ‘Law
Trafficking and Disasters-tracing the interlinkages’; ‘Law Gender and Disasters-case study of
Bundelkhand’.SLS Pune has been instrumental in influencing the new transformations in
Criminal Justice Systems in India via submitting recommendations to the Ministry of Home
Affairs under the Government of India. SLS Pune is also involved in research consultancy
for Dr. Veerappa Moily, former member of Parliament, India. SLS, Pune under the Nyaya
Bandhu Scheme (PRO BONO CLUB) SLS Pune received a Grant of Rupees One Lakh (Rs.
1,00,000) from the Department of Justice, Government of India. Adding to its initiatives with
the Government of India and the National Commission for Women, SLS Pune, organized the
“Regional Consultation on Review of Criminal Law- Improvement in Status of Women” in
February 2022 and submitted a detailed report to the National Commission for Women.
4. SCHOLARSHIPS
SLS, Pune endeavors to secure all-round contributions for the betterment of the field of Law,
to create world-class professionals, to produce committed academicians and law reformers, to
train justice dispensers and invigorate community crusaders and to create a strong watershed

of new and upcoming expertise in law relating to business and corporate matters. Students can
avail of scholarships such as the Government of India’s SC/ST Top Class Education
Scholarships, Ministry of Social Welfare, Govt. of India and State Merit Scholarships,
Scholarships for top class students with disability and also some private scholarships (for other
scholarships, please visit www.symlaw.ac.in).
2.1 SCALSAR:
SLSP has established the Symbiosis Centre for Advanced Legal Studies and Research
(SCALSAR). It is the centre-stage research, quality publications, government interface,
hosting scholars in residence, undertaking interdisciplinary legal studies and research projects,
training teachers, and designing training modules.
SCALSAR was informally established in 2007 and was formalised and recognized as an
excellence centre in the year 2013. SCALSAR envisions Idea architecture, infrastructure and
resources for advanced legal studies and research. It promotes Research, training and
consultancy in excellence centres aligned with SIU clusters having national and global
importance in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary areas.
It has 3 research clusters: Science Technology Innovation Law, Rule of Law in Context, and
Comparative Law. Every year SCALSAR organizes an International Research Conference

which has become popular as SYMROLIC representing the Rule of Law with Indian and
Global perspectives, aligning it with the SIU’s vision of an interdisciplinary conference and
connecting to different fields such as that of Innovation, Science, Technology, Human
Behaviour, Global Policy and Governance.
The purpose of SCALSAR under the Faculty of Law SIU, Symbiosis Law School Pune is to
centre-stage research, encourage quality publications, act as think-tank to the government, host
scholars in residence, undertake interdisciplinary legal studies and research projects, train
teachers and design training modules. SCALSAR contributes under three verticals viz. Science
Technology and Innovation Law, Rule of Law in Context and International and Comparative
Law and under 4 centres Symbiosis Center for Alternation Dispute Resolution (SCADR),
Symbiosis Centre for International and Comparative Child Rights (SCICCR), Symbiosis
Center for Climate Change Policy and Law (SCCCPL), Symbiosis Legal Skills Centre(SLSC)
and 21st Teach Skills Lab and Symbiosis Culture, Language, law and Justice Lab.
In the last year, the Centre has published more than 70 research papers in SCOPUS and
WoS-indexed journals by the SLS Pune faculty members and some PG / Ph.D. students, now
totalling up to 765 publications. Balancing the social agenda, the community legal care centre
of SLS Pune is engaged in the Prison Advocacy program of Mumbai High Court through Prison
Clinic, collaborates with District Legal Aid Services Authority and has clinics in villages and
inner city..

2.3 The Alumni Cell:
The Alumni Cell of Symbiosis Law School, Pune is a voluntary student body working under
the guidance of the Director, Symbiosis Law School Pune, and Dean Faculty of Law Symbiosis
International (Deemed University). The Cell continuously undertakes to strengthen the
relations of the alumni of SLS Pune. It has been instrumental in organizing the Annual Alumni
Meet, regular guest lectures by distinguished alumni on the campus, and publishing the annual
yearbook ‘Alumni Nexus’.SLSP is the proud alma mater to illustrious alumni such as Varuna
Agarwal ( UPSC AIR-38), Sharmistha Dutta (AIR2 CDSE), Vineet Dhanda Assistant Solicitor

SANCTIONED INTAKE:
a. The total intake is 300 seats [inclusive of 180 seats of BB.A. LL. B (Hons.) and 120
seats of B.A. LL.B (Hons.)].
b. Separate Merit Lists for BB.A. LL. B (Hons.) and B.A. LL.B (Hons.) programme will
be prepared and published. At the time of SLAT and Institute Registration, it shall be
mandatory for the candidates to indicate the programme to which they wish to apply. A
candidate is free to choose BOTH or ANY ONE programme. The candidate will not be
allowed to change the programme later.
4) ADMISSION PROCESS:
•It is mandatory to Register & Pay for both SLAT & SLS Pune.
•A candidate registered only for SLAT and not for SLS, Pune by paying the aforementioned fees will not be
eligible for the next phase of PI at SLS, Pune.

International Criminal Trial Advocacy Competition, 2024 (SICTA, 2024) from 18th April

2024 to 21st April 2024, centred on the theme – Prosecution against forced displacement
of civilians as an international crime under the ambit of the Rome Statute. The welcome
address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur, Fulbright Scholar, Director,
Symbiosis Law School, Pune, Dean, Faculty of Law, Symbiosis International (Deemed
University), Jean Monnet Chair Professor (EUC-LAMP Co-funded by EU). Prof. Gurpur
emphasized on SICTA’s esteemed stature, alumni contributions, and its resonance with
ICC criminal proceedings.
SICTA 2024 was honoured by the presence of our Chief Guest, Retd. Hon’ble Justice Mr.
Mandhata Seetharama Murti, Chairperson, Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights
Commission and our Guest of Honour, Dr. Rama Joga Rao Additional Legal Advisor,
Department of Legal Affairs Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, who shared
their wisdom and insights with the august gathering. Twenty-Four National and
International teams, comprising around 70 participants hailing from the vibrant cities of
Kathmandu, Kochi, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Dehradun, Bengaluru, and Punjab

The opening dance performance lit up SYMBHAV’s stage, leaving the audience spellbound.
Unveiling the untold: 'Maaye Maati Chhodab Nahi' – a powerful student-led Law Theatre
directed by Mr. Sachin Malvi and assisted by SLSP alumna Ms. Navya Om, shedding light
on forest rights and tribal struggles.

SYMBHAV, 2024 witnessed number of events including battle of bands, poster making and

Assistant Professor, recently attended a 5th Transnational Meeting on Curriculum Development
Meeting on Climate Change Policy and Law (CCP_Law) held at Uttara Malaysia University,
Sintok, Malaysia from 22nd to 25th April, 2024. The other participants were the Coventry
University from the United Kingdom, the University of Girona from Spain, European
Knowledge Spot and Pedmede from Greece, University Utara Malaysia and International
Islamic University from Malaysia, Hue University and Hanoi Law University from Vietnam,
and the Marwadi University from India.

7) Hexaware Recruitment Drive hosted by the Career and Professional Development Cell,
Symbiosis Law School, Pune on 7th June, 2024.
The Career & Professional Development Cell at SLS-P has been instrumental in enhancing
career prospects through a range of initiatives. These include conducting numerous training
sessions, guest lectures, and facilitating various internship and recruitment opportunities. The
Cell has forged strong relationships with alumni, law firms, and corporations, while also
organizing events like the Mock Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI) for pre-final
year students, Backlog Service, and Legal Internships. Notably, it has successfully placed final-
year students from both the 5-year and 3-year programs, LLM students, and alumni in top-tier
law firms, corporations, think tanks, NGOs, and government roles.

8) The Deal Mediation Competition 2024 organised by the Corporate Law Cell in
collaboration with the Law Econ Cell on 5th to 6th April, 2024.
The Corporate Law Cell conducted various activities encompassing insightful panel
discussions, guest lectures, workshops, and research publications. These intellectual
endeavours collectively enhanced the students’ knowledge and widened their perspective.
The Corporate Law Cell, in collaboration with the LawEcon Cell, organised an interactive
Panel Discussion on "Blockchain and Decentralised Finance (DeFi) in Banking and Payments"
on 27th April, 2024 conducted by panellists Mr. Suril Desai, Leader at Nishith Desai Associates
and Mr. Sarthak Doshi, Senior Associate at Indus Law. It aimed to provide the students with a
thorough understanding of Blockchain, DeFi, and its related regulatory challenges.
The Sri Aurobindo International Youth Conference, Pune Chapter, was held on August 6, 2024,
at Symbiosis Law School, Pune, in collaboration with the Auroville Society. The conference
focused on Sri Aurobindo's life, philosophy, and contributions to politics, spirituality, and
education, emphasizing his legacy for youth and global consciousness.

The event began with a welcome and a lamp-lighting ceremony featuring dignitaries, including
Dr. Shashikala Gurpur. Key highlights included In the afternoon, speakers such as Mr. Neelesh
Marik discussed the relevance of integral yoga in personal and professional life, while Prof.
Kundan Mishra examined its role in modern education. Prof. Sampadananda Mishra
highlighted the importance of Sanskrit in preserving India's cultural heritage. A total of 521
students participated in the conference.
10) The 2nd Indian Postgraduate Course on Victimology, Victim Assistance &
Criminal Justice.National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Gandhinagar,
Gujarat which was a joint collaboration of World Society of Victimology (WSV)
and NFSU.
The study visits to NFSU not only offered academic insights but also provided
practical exposure to forensic sciences, crime prevention, and victim support
systems. Interaction with organizations like the Ahmedabad Women’s Action

Group (AWAG) highlighted the real-world challenges faced by victims and
emphasized the importance of proactive measures to protect their rights.

Symbiosis Law School, Pune organized a Symposium on Judicial Reforms: Challenges and
Way Forward on September 27, 2024. The event featured prominent speakers including
Hon'ble (Retd) Justice Pradeep Nandarjog, former Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court,
and Mr. P. Karandikar, IAS (Retd). The symposium addressed various aspects of judicial
reforms, focusing on institutional structures, processes, and the need for citizen-centric
approaches. Key topics discussed included court administration issues, the need for
digitalization, the establishment of All India Judicial Services, and the potential of ODR and
AI in enhancing judicial efficiency. The event also included presentations by students on
relevant topics and concluded with a Q&A session and closing remarks by Prof. (Dr.)
Shashikala Gurpur, Director of Symbiosis Law School, Pune.

The team comprising of Ishita Mishra, Sanjhali Bajaj, Aradhana Vaishnav, Tanvi Jhalani, and
Anshita Shrivastava received an Honourable Mention for the Best Memorandum on behalf of
the Claimant and Respondent at the 21st Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration
