Energy Efficiency tips for Household Appliances

Always use star rated appliances to save on monthly EB bills

Always Use Three Pin Plug / MCB with Earth to avoid accidents

Always switch off the Three Pin Plug / MCB after switching off with remote

Install RCCB / RCCD to avoid from fatal Electric Shock

Air Conditioners:

• Close all Windows and Doors before switching ‘on’ the AC

• Set the Temp. at 24 - 25˚C
• Switch OFF Fan
• Set AC Blower Speed at Medium Speed
• Switch OFF your AC an hour earlier as the cooling is retained
• Regular clean AC filter will save the energy and increases the efficiency

Refrigerator (Fridge)

• Keep Fridge minimum Half foot from Wall.

• Set the temperature as per need /season.
• Don’t open refrigerator door unnecessarily - Frequently opening of
refrigerator door will increase energy consumption by 7%.
• Set the refrigerator temperature as per need : lower the temperature..more
the energy consumption (20 to 25 %).
• Decide what you want before opening the door.
• Do not overfill your refrigerator: Excessive loading of refrigerator, create
trouble in the circulation of cold air inside. Also let there be some space near
the fridge door.
• Regularly defrost Manual defrost Refrigerators and freezers.
• Check for Air tightness of the door seals
• Cover liquids and wrap foods stored in fridge
• Do not keep Hot items inside the fridge

Water Heater / Geyser

• Set the Normal Temperature (45 - 50ºC)

• Switch OFF Water Heater before entering Bath Room
• Check the temperature of Water and then use it
Washing Machine

• Use the Washing Machine with Full load.

• If the load is less, Set the Programme appropriately (Normal Rinse / Medium
Speed / Min. Wash / Min Temp. )
• Use Temp. Mode according to the Season (Summer / Winter), Prefer a
washing machine without drier
• Clean the Drain and inlet point as per instruction in the manual
• Try to avoid using the Washing Machine at Peak hours (6AM -09.00 AM &
6PM -09.00 PM)

Chimney

• Clean Filters as directed in the instruction manual.

• Switch ON Chimney and its light when essential
• Select appropriate Speed of Exhaust.

Iron Box

• For every degree you lower the Thermostat you’ll save between 1 to 3% of
power.
• Clean the lower heating surface regularly.

Mobile, Laptop & computer

• Computer / Laptop Turn OFF your Computer, when not in use Switch OFF
the Monitor, when not in use
• Turn off the home office equipment when not in use. A computer that runs
24 hours a day, for instance, uses – more power than an energy-efficient
refrigerator.
• If the computer must be left on, turn off the monitor; this device alone uses
more than half the system’s energy.
• Setting computers, monitors, and copiers to use sleep-mode when not in use
helps cut energy costs by approximately 40%.
• Battery chargers, such as those for laptops, cell phones and digital cameras,
draw power whenever they are plugged in and are very inefficient. Unplug
and save.
• Screen savers save computer screens, not energy. Start-ups and shutdowns
do not use any extra energy, nor are they hard on your computer
components. In fact, shutting computers down when you are finished using
them actually reduces system wear – and saves energy.

TV

• Turn off or unplug your TV when not in use.

• Lower your TV screen's brightness.
• Adjust your screen's contrast.
• Set your TV to energy save mode.
• Use the sleep timer feature.
• Take advantage of standby mode.
• Switch to picture off mode when possible.
• Automate your TV.

Lights& Fans

• One of the best energy-saving devices is the light switch. Turn off lights &
fans when not required.
• Many automatic devices can help in saving energy used in lighting. Consider
employing infrared sensors, motion sensors, automatic timers, dimmers..
• Use task lighting, which focuses light where it’s needed. A reading lamp, for
example, lights only reading material rather than the whole room.
• Clean the Dirty tube lights and bulbs 50 percent of the light is absorbed by
dirt.
• Place the fan strategically. Whether it is a ceiling fan, a floor fan, an
oscillating fan, or a standing fan, where you place it makes a lot of difference
in its efficiency.
• Clean the blades regularly.
• Set the fan to required speed.
• Replace your electricity-guzzling ordinary bulbs with more efficient
types.(CFL &LEDs)

Induction stove

• Induction stoves are energy-efficient, safe and can contribute to savings on

electricity bills compared to traditional gas or electric stoves. Following are
some ways to reduce the EB bills:

o While using Induction stoves, Keep the bottom of your pots clean.
Blackened surfaces can get in the way of the induction process.
o Cook in large batches and eat the leftovers for your next meal. This
will save you from having to use the stove top more than once.

Electric stove /Oven/Electric Kettle

• Microwaves save energy by reducing cooking times. In fact, one can save up
to 50 percent on your cooking energy costs by using a microwave oven
instead of a regular oven, especially for small quantities of food. Follow these
tips to reduce the Energy consumption:
o Microwaves cook food from the outside edge toward the centre of the
dish, so if you’re cooking more than one item, place larger and thicker
items on the outside.
o Use an electric kettle to heat water. It’s more energy efficient than
using an electric cook top element.
o When buying a new electric kettle, choose one that has an automatic
shut-off button and a heat-resistant handle.
o It takes more energy to heat a dirty kettle. Regularly clean your
electric kettle by combining boiling water and vinegar to remove
mineral deposits.
o Don’t overfill the kettle for just one drink. Heat only the amount of
water you need.
