The Story of the Christmas Stocking
A long time ago, there was a kind but poor man who had three
daughters. He was very worried because he didn’t have enough
money to pay for their weddings, and during those times, it was
difficult for women to marry without a dowry. The family
struggled, but they stayed hopeful.
Saint Nicholas, known for his generosity and kindness, heard
about their troubles. He wanted to help, but he also wanted to do
it in secret. One night, after the family had gone to bed, he
climbed onto the roof of their house and dropped three small bags
of gold down the chimney.
As it happened, the daughters had hung their stockings by the
fireplace to dry after washing them. The gold coins landed inside
the stockings, and when the family woke up the next morning, they
were amazed and overjoyed to find the unexpected gift.
This act of kindness allowed the daughters to marry and brought
happiness to the family. Over time, the story spread, and people
began hanging stockings by their fireplaces, hoping for their own
little miracles during the Christmas season.
