    GLOBAL WARMING

    Good morning every one. It’s really an honour for me to be in front of you all.
    My name is.... I am from …. First of all, I would like to say thank you to the juries and committee who
    have given this opportunity. Above all, I would like to thank God for His great blessing upon all of us.
    And in this lovely occasion, I would like to talk about Global Warming.

    Ladies and gentlemen, I believe that all of us are familiar with the term of “Global Warning”. What is
    Global Warming actually? Well, global warming is the rise of the average temperature of earth’s
    atmosphere and oceans. It means that our world becomes hotter. Global warming is caused by some
    factors.

    Let’s see some of the causes.

    Let us see our habit that we love to do, that is to go anywhere on a motorized vehicle even though we
    only go for a short distance. The carbon dioxide produced by the burning of fuel of the engine destroys
    the purity of the air. It also causes ozone layer become thinner. When the ozone layer gets thinner, the
    ultra violet ray from the sun comes into the earth in more volume. The UV ray is not so friendly to the
    nature. It heats up the temperature of the earth.

    Let us see another lifestyle that may cause the temperature of the atmosphere to increase. Nowadays,
    people tend to build high permanent houses and cover their yard by cement and cut down the trees and the
    trees that have been cut down are replaced by tall buildings. This kind of neighbourhood is definitely
    looks beautiful, neat and clean but it is causes our atmosphere temperature increase. There are fewer trees
    that can minimize the carbon dioxide produce by motorized vehicles or factories activities.

    The uses of electrical equipment such as refrigerator, air conditioner, lamps, etc., also play an important
    role in increasing the temperature of the atmosphere because those equipment also produce heat.

    We often hear about forest fire, right? Forest fire which is usually done by farmers before they start
    cultivating the land also causes the volume of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere get higher. It certainly
    increases the temperature of the atmosphere.

    Ladies and gentlemen,


    As the temperature rises, the climate becomes uncertain. We often get longer rainy season than usual,
    which usually bring floods everywhere. Or we may get longer dry season which causes a long drought.
    Living things suffer from the lack of water and the threat of fire come up.

    Another thing that comes about due to the increase of the earth’s temperature is the melt down of the
    polar iceberg. This process is not finished yet. It’s still melting there as the temperature of the earth keeps
    rising. The melting of the iceberg has added a huge volume of water to the sea and as the result the sea
    level is also rising. This is a serious threat to our world as it may shrink the land. Several areas all over
    the world such as America, Bangladesh and also Indonesia have been warned to have the possibility of
    being shrunk. This is a serious problem. It is really horrible, isn’t it?

    Well, ladies and gentlemen,


    So what can we do to prevent our world becomes hotter and hotter or even shrinks?
    Let’s start habits that are friendly to our world.
    First, stop cutting down trees and start planting new trees in our neighbourhood.
    Second, minimize the use of electrical equipment in our houses.
    Third, recycle our waste instead of burning them.
    Fourth, don’t use motorized vehicles too often. Use bicycle or go on foot more often.
