General Instructions: -
(i) All questions are compulsory.
(ii) The question paper has five sections and 33 questions.
(iii) Section–A has 16 questions of 1 mark each; Section–B has 5 questions of 2 marks each;
Section– C has 7 questions of 3 marks each; Section– D has 2 case-based questions of 4
marks each; and Section–E has 3 questions of 5 marks each.
(iv) There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in some
questions. A student must attempt only one of the alternatives in such questions.
(v) Wherever necessary, neat, and properly labelled diagrams should be drawn.
Section – A
Q. No. 1 to 12 are multiple choice questions. Only one of the choices is correct. Select and
write the correct choice as well as the answer to these questions.
Q. Question Marks
No.
1 Which of these plants produces both chasmogamous & cleistogamous 1
(a) Viola
(b) Oxalis
(c) Commenlina
(d) all the above
2 Foetal ejection reflex inhuman female is induced by 1
(a)Release of oxytocin pituitary
(b)Fully developed foetus and placenta
(c)Differentiation of mammary gland
(d)Pressure exerted by amniotic fluid
(a)Both lac and trp operons are always active, regardless of metabolite presence.
(b)The lac operon is activated by lactose, while the trp operon is activated by
tryptophan.
(c)The lac operon is inducible and requires lactose to activate, while the trp
operon is repressible and requires tryptophan to inhibit.
(d)Both lac and trp operons are inducible operons, activated by the presence of
their respective substrates.
(a) A (Agitator)
(b) B (Sterile air supply)
(c) C (Cooling jacket)
(d) D (Sampling point)
15 1
Assertion: Leguminous plants are nitrogen fixers.
16 1
Assertion (A): Gel electrophoresis is used to separate DNA fragments based
on their size.
Reason (R): DNA fragments move through the gel matrix towards the positive
electrode because DNA has a positive charge.
Section - B
17 Identify the labelled parts A, B, C and D. 2
OR
(a)Name the stage of the human embryo that gets implanted in the uterus.
(b)Draw its labelled diagram.
18 An HIV-positive individual has been living with the virus for several years and 2
is currently receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART). The healthcare provider
discusses various factors that influence the progression of HIV infection,
including the role of the virus in immune system dysfunction and the
importance of viral load monitoring.
Describe how HIV enters and replicates within host cells.
19 During protein synthesis, the mRNA codon AUG plays a crucial role. 2
What amino acid does this tRNA carry, and why is this amino acid critical for
protein synthesis?
OR
Explain the dual function of AUG codon. Give the sequence of bases it is
transcribed from and its anticodon.
20 In genetic engineering and plant biotechnology, the biolistic gun (or gene gun) is 2
an essential tool used for delivering DNA into plant cells.
How this method compares to other techniques used for gene transfer, such as
Agrobacterium-mediated transformation?
21 In ecosystem ecology, pyramids of biomass illustrate the distribution of biomass 2
among different trophic levels. There are different types of pyramids of biomass,
each representing unique ecological relationships.
What factors might lead to variations in the shape of the pyramids?
OR
In the study of ecosystems, understanding productivity is crucial for
evaluating energy flow and ecosystem health.
Analyze how environmental factors influence both NPP and GPP.
Section - C
22 Observe the following cross and answer the following: 3
(a)Identify the given phenomenon.
OR
Observe the given pedigree for the trait colour blindness and answer the
following questions:
a) Identify whether the given pedigree is Autosomal /X linked and Dominant
/Recessive.
b) What could be the genotype of parents in the First generation?
c) Depict the genotype and phenotype of females in III generation.
24 Observe the given graph that shows hormonal changes during the menstrual 3
cycle.
a) Identify the phases of the menstrual cycle
b) Explain the role of LH and FSH peaks.
For visually impaired students:
a) Describe the phases of the menstrual cycle
b) Explain the role of LH and FSH peaks.
25 In a quiet neighbourhood, a woman had been murdered at her home when her 3
roommates were supposedly away. Her roommates were two twin brothers (S1
and S2) and another woman (S3). The investigating officer found the skin of the
murderer under her fingernails. The officer sent the DNA from the skin sample
along with DNA from the roommates for DNA profiling. Given below is an image
of the bands obtained.
(a) Who is likely to be the murderer? Give a reason to support your answer.
(b) S1 and S2 are twin brothers. What can you conclude about them from the
image?
26 The primary effluent in the treatment of sewage is sent to tanks for secondary 3
treatment in the presence of aerobic bacteria.
(a) Your team is considering using anaerobic bacteria instead of aerobic
bacteria for secondary treatment. Analyse how this change would impact the
Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) of the effluent. What implications might this
have for downstream water quality and regulatory compliance?
(b) Name one condition that should be maintained in a sludge digester where
biogas is produced.
(c) The slurry formed after biogas production is recommended as manure for
plants. Which nutrients will the slurry be rich in and why?
27 Explain the significance of using Taq polymerase in the PCR process. What 3
makes it suitable for this technique?
OR
Given below the diagram of maturation of a proinsulin
into insulin.
Section - D
29 Natural selection can influence distribution of phenotype in three 4
different ways as shown below in the figure. Based on this figure answer
the questions that follow:
(i) Based on the given graphs, what conclusion can you draw about case X
and Y?
(ii)What is the significance of higher and narrower peak in case X?
(iii)What does graph in case Y indicates? Give suitable example.
(iv)What would happen if population is converted into case Z?
30 After a surgery drug ‘X’ was injected to the patient to counteract the effect 4
of pain receptors in the body and to induce sleep in patient. The structure of
the drug ‘X’ is provided:
(i)Identify the drug from the chemical structure that was injected to the
patient.
(ii)Give the scientific name of the plant that can be used to obtain drug
X.
(iii)Write the effects of compound obtained by drug X on the human body.
(iv)To which group X belongs to? Mention the location of its receptors
in human body.
