4. A pump on the ground floor of a building can pump up water to fill a tank of volume 40 m3 in 20
minutes if the tank is 30 m above the ground and the efficiency of the pump is 60 %. How much
electric power is consumed by the pump? Given: density of water = 1000 kg/m3 and acceleration
due to gravity = 9.8 m/s2
5. A well 20 m deep and 7 m in diameter is full of water. Calculate the work done in pumping the
whole of water up to ground level.
