REFLECTION

Through engaging in this unit I have learned a great deal about the importance of children’s’
literature, not only in education but also in a child’s general life. As a result there are a number
of changes I will make to my own reading experiences and additionally those that will involve
others.

As a result I feel that this is an important area that I need to both explore and experience more
for myself. This will be exceedingly helpful to me in my future career and will allow me to use a
wide range of resources to create engaging learning opportunities. I will start to consider ways
in which I can do this each time I read a children’s book. In addition I will ensure that I note
down potential learning opportunities as I read and engage with picture books so that I will be
able to begin creating a pool of resources for myself.

I have thoroughly enjoyed both learning and engaging with others in this unit, and I believe that
thus far I have gained some depth of understanding in regards to children’s literature that will
be very useful to me.

Think that one of the discussions that changed my view of children’s literaturewas the one
where we defined what a child was. In this discussion the class definedchildren as carefree,
innocent, energetic, sponges, curious, fun, sweet, and the listgoes on. After creating this list i
realized that we had put children in a box. But inactuality children are like adults. There are
various types of kids who have differentinterests. While some children might like fairy tales
others might like thrillingmysteries. As a future educator teacher we have to know and
understand the various types of booksout there to help spark each individual student’s interest
in reading.
