Vocabulary from the video.

Waste and Different Types

Waste: Activities that consume resources without adding value.

 Waste: Non-value-adding activities.

 Transport: Unnecessary movement of materials.
 Inventory: Excess products/materials not in use.
 Motion: Unnecessary movements by people.
 Waiting: Idle time when resources are not used.
 Overproduction: Producing more than needed.
 Over processing: Doing more work than required.
 Defects: Efforts caused by rework or errors.

Chain of Supply: The supply chain refers to the entire network of entities, directly or
indirectly interlinked and interdependent in serving the same consumer or customer.

Delivery: The act of transporting goods to a destination.

Delay: A period of time when progress is halted or slowed.

Quality Management: Quality management involves overseeing all activities and tasks
needed to maintain a desired level of excellence.

Lean: A methodology focused on minimizing waste while maximizing productivity.

Just-In-Time (JIT): A strategy to increase efficiency by producing only as needed.

5S: 5S is a workplace organization method that uses a list of five Japanese words: seiri,
seiton, seisō, seiketsu, and shitsuke. In English as Sort, set in order, shine, standardize,
sustain.

Kanban: A visual scheduling system for managing work.

Six Sigma: A set of techniques for process improvement aimed at reducing defects.

DMAIC: A data-driven methodology for improving processes (Define, Measure,

Analyze, Improve, Control).

Benefits of Lean Six Sigma

Lean Six Sigma combines the waste reduction principles of Lean with the defect
reduction focus of Six Sigma.
 Improved Quality: Higher standards and fewer defects.
 Increased Efficiency: Better use of resources and time.
 Cost Savings: Reduction in operational costs.
 Customer Satisfaction: Better meeting customer needs.
 Employee Engagement: Greater involvement in improvement processes.
 Competitive Advantage: Enhanced market position.

2. 5S Implementation

5S Methodology Activity Instructions

BEFORE

AFTER
1. Choose an Area to Improve:
- I chose my desk since it is a place where I do a lot of things and it always gets
messy. How I do homework, crafts, paint and also take my classes is an area
that always has several random things.

2. Implement the 5S Methodology:

 Sort (Seiri)
 I saw many unnecessary things that I don't use to take classes, do
homework or other activities that I usually do. Things like the water bottle,
body lotion, some cat stuffed animals, also makeup stuff, lighter, trash and
old receipts..

 Set in Order (Seiton)

I put every book in order, also the computer the can of pens and pencils, I
organized the cables and the chargers of my computer and phone and put
them in a better position.

 Shine (Seiso)
I cleaned everything on my desk , my computer , the keyboard , the cables
and some books.

 Standardize (Seiketsu)
I clean 2 times per week my desk , trying to organize also while I clean
everything, taking out the trash every 2 days to avoid having it here.

 Sustain (Shitsuke)
I try to keep it clean and organized from day one, so I throw out the trash
and always shake the table so that the table doesn't get dusty and doesn't
look dirty.

It's a little tedious trying to organize every day, so I try as much as

possible not to relax too much so that it doesn't become difficult for me to
organize and clean. Since I do several activities at my table it is always
disorganized and that is why it has been difficult for me to keep everything
clean.
3. Assignment: Writing Effective Prompts for
ChatGPT and Preparing for a Job Interview
Objective: This assignment aims to teach students how to write effective prompts for ChatGPT,
use it to prepare for a job interview in their respective engineering fields, and conduct a
simulated job interview with ChatGPT.
Instructions:
Part 1: Learning to Write Correct Prompts for ChatGPT
1. Understand the Basics:
 A prompt is a question or statement you give to ChatGPT to get a response.
 Prompts should be clear, specific, and concise to get the most accurate and
useful responses.
2. Examples of Good Prompts:
 "Explain the concept of thermodynamics in simple terms."
 "Provide a summary of the latest trends in civil engineering."
 "List the most common interview questions for a software engineer."
3. Practice Writing Prompts:
 Write 5 different prompts related to your field of study. Ensure each prompt is
clear and specific.
Part 2: Using ChatGPT to Prepare for a Job Interview
1. Job Interview Preparation:
 Write a prompt asking ChatGPT to help you prepare for a job interview in your
specific field of engineering.
 Example: "Help me prepare for a job interview for a mechanical engineering
position. What questions should I expect, and how should I answer them?"
2. Prompt Writing Assignment:
 Write a prompt to ChatGPT to get advice on the following:
1. Researching the Company:
 Example: "How can I research the company XYZ to prepare for
my job interview?"
2. Common Interview Questions:
 Example: "What are the top 10 common interview questions for a
civil engineer, and how should I answer them?"
3. Behavioral Questions:
 Example: "What are some behavioral questions I might be asked
in an electrical engineering interview, and how should I respond?"
4. Technical Questions:
 Example: "Provide me with a list of technical questions related to
chemical engineering that I might encounter in a job interview."
5. Questions to Ask the Interviewer:
 Example: "What are some good questions to ask the interviewer
for a computer engineering position?"
3. Simulated Job Interview with ChatGPT:
 Conduct a simulated job interview with ChatGPT by writing a prompt to start the
interview.
 Example: "Let's have a simulated job interview for a mechanical engineering
position."
 Respond to ChatGPT's questions as if you were in a real interview.
 Record both the questions asked by ChatGPT and your answers.
Part 3: Submission
1. Write a Document:
 Include the 5 practice prompts you wrote.
 Include the prompts you wrote for job interview preparation.
 Include the full transcript of your simulated job interview with ChatGPT, showing
both the questions and your answers.
2. Submit the Document:
 Submit the document by August the ninth.
Evaluation Criteria:
 Clarity and specificity of the prompts.
 Relevance of the prompts to your field of study.
 Completeness and quality of ChatGPT’s responses.
 Quality and realism of the simulated job interview responses.
Tips for Success:
 Be as specific as possible in your prompts to get the most relevant and useful answers.
 Consider what you want to know or practice for your job interview.
 Use the responses from ChatGPT to refine your interview preparation and improve your
understanding.
