Task:
You will be:
1. Sitting a 60-minute examination (worth 20%).
2. Assessed on the topics:
• Length and Circles
• Angle Relationships

How do I prepare for this task?

Here are a couple of things you could to do prepare for the upcoming Assessment Task:
• Use the Assessment criteria below as a checklist of the concepts you need to know.
• Work on math problems every day, even if it's just for 15-20 minutes. The more you practise, the more
confident you will become.
• Improve your speed and accuracy by working under timed conditions – use a timer or ask a parent/carer to
time you.
• Ask for help from your teacher or classmates if you are struggling with a particular concept or problem.

• Refer to the following resources for extra help:

o Year 7 Maths Space Chapters 8,11,12:01,12:02,12:03,12:08 + Sheets
o Year 7 New Century Maths Chapters 2,5 (5:01 to 5:07 only), 6, 8:01, 8:02 + Sheets
o Year 7 Common Google Classroom (s3xbt7n) and your class Google Classroom
o Notes from class (including Circles and Pythagoras Theorem notes or booklets)

On the day of the Assessment Task:

• Stay calm.
• Read instructions.
• Focus on answering the easier questions first before tackling the more challenging ones.
• Remember to check your answers.
Assessment Criteria:
In this task, you will be assessed on the following:

Length and Circles

 Solve problems involving the perimeter of simple plane shapes as well as special quadrilaterals such as
parallelograms, trapeziums, rhombuses and kites.
 Solve problems involving the perimeter of composite shapes
 Identify and describe the relationship between circle features, including the radius, diameter, arc, chord,
sector and segment of a circle, and tangent to a circle
 Solve problems involving pi and the circumference of a circle
 Solve problems involving arc lengths, perimeter of sectors and simple composite figures, giving an exact
answer in terms of pi or an approximate answer

Angle Relationships
 Language, notations and conventions of Geometry
 Label the vertex and arms of an angle with capital letters
 Label and name angles using ∠QPR notation.
 Measure the size of an angle.
 Use the terms 'complementary' and 'supplementary' for angles adding to 90° and 180°respectively.
 Identify and name right angles, straight angles, angles of complete revolution and vertically opposite angles
embedded in diagrams
 Identify, name and measure alternate angle pairs, corresponding angle pairs and co-interior angle pairs for
two lines cut by a transversal.
 Use angle properties to identify parallel lines and explain why two lines are parallel
 Find the sizes of unknown angles embedded in diagrams using angle relationships, including angles at a
point and angles associated with parallel lines, giving reasons.

Properties of Geometric Figures

 Classification of Triangles
 Classification of Quadrilaterals and describing properties of special quadrilaterals
 Properties of Triangles, such as angle sum = 180 degrees and external angle = sum of two opposite interior
angles
 Solve problems to determine unknown sides and angles applying properties of triangles and quadrilaterals

Right Angled Triangles and Pythagoras’ Theorem

 Using Pythagoras theorem to find the length of an unknown side (short or long) in a right-angled triangle.
 Use the converse of Pythagoras theorem to establish whether a triangle has a right angle or not.
 Solve practical problems involving Pythagoras theorem, approximating the answer as a decimal or leaving in
exact form.
 Justify whether a set of 3 integers is a Pythagorean triad

Algebraic Consolidation
 Use concise algebraic notation and conventions for multiplication, division and powers, and explain the
meanings for each convention.
 Generate algebraic expressions by translating descriptions and vice versa.
 Substitute numbers into algebraic expressions and evaluate the result.
 Generate a number pattern from an algebraic expression.
 Identify like terms, and add and subtract them to simplify algebraic expressions
 Simplify algebraic expressions involving mixed operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and
division).
