among the health facilities.(WHO,2018)
• Malnutrition is still a serious public health problem in Kenya
and requires urgent attention and with Kenya being a third
world country, it is difficult to minimize issues on malnutrition.
According to the recent Demographic and Health Survey(DHS)
in Kenya the maternal mortality ration is 362 per 100,000 live
births. Although the county has made great adjustment in
reducing neonatal, infants, child and under 5 mortality.(KNBS et
al 2015)
• In analysis of acute malnutrition prevalence for Taita County, a
total of 393 children under 5years were greatly involved.
Generally the County is faced with the mortality, and morbidity
of malnutrition.(WUK ,2013)
PROBLEM STATEMENT
• According to food insecurity classification, about 2.2million were
classified to be suffering rapidly from food insecurity.(KESSG,
2012).The greater impact is normally on the children under 5 years
,who are the most vulnerable group in the population.(KNBS,
2010).
JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY
• A number of studies have indicated several factors which are
associated with the nutritional status of children under 5 years.
However those studies conducted in recent years have shown that
the incidences contributing differ within countries.
• Wundanyi sub county is faced with several incidences that have a
negative impact on nutrition, mostly among children (0-59months).
Socio economic factors, water and sanitation, food security and
feeding practices are some of the major factors leading to poor
nutrition.

where dealing with Malnutrition cases especially in Narok. It will
also have a positive effect on the high rates of malnutrition and
therefore led to a decrease in the prevalence of malnutrition in the
area.

challenge to the residents, who might not
effectively answer them as most people are
illiterate.
Delimitation
• The study will be effectively done as the
people speak a common language that i will
understand clearly through the direct
interviews.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Design
• A descriptive study design will be used since it simple to
use and data will be collected qualitatively using
questionnaires.
Target Population
• It comprise of all children under the age 5 years, the
parents will also explain on the ways in which they
practice in feeding their young ones.
Study Area
• The entire study will be conducted in, Narok county
Sampling Technique
• The researcher will use a simple random sampling
technique method during the study.
SAMPLE SIZE DETERMINATION
The sample size will be calculated using Mugenda and
Mugenda formula.
nf = n/1 +(n/N)
According to this formula
nf = desired sample size when the population is less
than 10,000
n = desired sample when the population is more than
10,000
N = Estimate of the size
270/(1 +270/540)=180
Thus nf = 180
30% of 180= 54 Subjects.
DATA COLLECTION, ANALYSIS AND PRESENTATION
Data Collection
• A questionnaire will be used to collect data an household profile.
The respondents were also interviewed to give details on their
socio-economics characteristics of the household.
