intensive livestock production

when the livestock is not taking too much from the environment, nor
causing any damage to it it is called intensive livestock production.
livestock is kept outside and graze on grass or are provide with
vegetables by humans
usually done in developed countries where they don't have the area
to keep large number of cattle.
the farmers tend to use high energy foods for the livestock so that
they produce more milk, wool, meat, etc.
these animals are often given medications to be disease free and
sometimes kept in places with temperature control

advantages
provides more food for people cheaper
less people would go hungry
takes up less land providing
more space for other species

disadvantages
welfare issues for the livestock as they struggle in crowded conditions
disease can spread easily
waste pollute land and seas nearby
the food for the cattle is something we can eat so it becomes wasteful
lots of energy is used for the travel, temperature of buildings.
large amounts of water is needed, it reduces amount of water for
plants and animals nearby

habitat destruction
Each species have adapted a habitat in which they thrive in. Humans
destroy these habitats which make it harder for species to survive.
there are many causes to this, such as:
1. cutting down native vegetation for farming, livestock, building houses , factories or
roads
2. to mine for natural resources, such as metal ores, gravel, fossil fuels. The mines
destroy the habitat and the toxic run-off can enter rivers or soil in the area
3. pollutants are added to water and land which can kill the plants that live there

habitats are also destroyed when key species are

removed like :
collecting live corals reefs damages their whole
habitat, also
endangering other species of animals depending on
them. corals have
photosynthetic algae inside their bodies which are at
the star of all food
chain in the reefs hence destroying the whole food web.
