Online DCW Application-Student Guide
Step 5: There are some blank/empty fields that are required to be filled. Completing these sections is
crucial for the processing of your application.
Please note that instead of manually entering data, kindly utilize the browse option. This ensures
accuracy in our records.
Subject: It is the prefix of your research. By browsing the list appears on the screen. e-g BIO, EE, ACF,
MGS, LAW, ECON etc.
Students are requested to check the Directed Course Work codes that have been shared by the
Registrar’s Office in the attached Excel file. Please review the list carefully and ensure that the codes
correspond to the courses you wish to enroll in.
DCW: Independent Study, Senior Project, DRP for Undergrad students and similarly, Master’s Thesis,
Practicum and DTR etc for Grad and PhD students.
Title: It is mandatory to insert the title, otherwise the application will not be submitted. Title means the
topic of the project or the area of research.
Supervisor: Please select the supervisor’s name by search option. Only the name of those
supervisors/faculty appears who are working in that area of research.
Group ID: If a student is planning to do a Directed Course Work e-g Senior Project or DRP in a group.
Then all the members of the group are required to submit the online application with same (Unique)
group ID and the same Title in application. The supervisor will approve the application of a group by
unique code.
Co-supervisor---This field is optional. In case you are doing across-school Directed Course Work, or you
are working with more than one supervisor, you may provide the information. However, the application
will be forwarded to the Primary supervisor only for approval.
Academic Level: When applying for DCW in a semester, please be aware that the academic level will be
based on the system records or eligibility requirements.
Completed DCW Units: Any DCW units that you have successfully completed and have been graded in
the system will appear as completed DCW units/credits.
In Progress DCW Units: For any pending DCW grades from previous semesters and credits from the
current semester, they will be displayed as in-progress DCW units/credits.
Please note that the maximum limit for DCW units in a four-year Degree program is 12.
Before submitting your DCW application, make sure that you have fulfilled all the eligibility criteria.
Ensure that you have marked OKY to indicate that you have reviewed and confirmed the accuracy of
your application.
As illustrated in the appended screenshot, your application will be forwarded to the respective
department coordinator and then to the respective supervisor for approval. An example of the approval
process is provided for your reference.
After filling in the requisite fields, Press Submit Button. Also, you will receive the system generated
emails accordingly in case of approval and denial.
As per the University policy, the eligibility criteria to apply for registration in Directed Coursework is as
follows:
❖ Students enrolled in, Multi-Semester Senior Project or Master’s Thesis are required to re-submit
online application for second part of Senior Project/Master’s Thesis and enroll it in Zambeel
accordingly.
❖ We strongly encourage you to follow these procedures carefully to ensure a smooth and timely
enrollment process.
