    Meerkat is a fresh, funky and fun range of enjoyable wines grown, made
    and bottled on the Welbedacht Wine Estate. Nestled in the Wellington
    district, the Welbedacht farm was acquired by the Burger family in 1997.
    Both Schalk Senior and Junior played rugby for South Africa. Schalk
    Junior became the youngest International Rugby Player of the Year in
    2004. The Estate comprises 110 hectares of 12 different cultivars, and it
    produces over 1 000 tons of wine a year, which is vinified in its unique
    open cement fermenters that are lifted off the ground. The basket
    press imported from Spain is gravity fed and used to gently press the
    husks. Also unique to the cellar is the large pre-cooling area used for
    cold maturation, which enhances the extraction of colour and flavour.
    Great wines are made in these vineyards.
