TOPIC 1: HOMETOWN

1. Where do you come from?

I’m from HCM city, which has the highest population density in Vietnam. HCM city is where people are
really hospitable and willing to help the other when they need. It is also a great place for everyone to
travel and live in.

2. What do you like about your hometown?

The most attractive thing that I enjoy in my hometown is the stunning landscapes there. There are many
places that people should visit when they travel to HCM city such as Landmark 81, Independence Palace,
Ben Thanh market…. If the visitors don’t go to these places and take many photos, they will be
considered as not having been to HCM city.

3. Are there any interesting places in your hometown?

Of course, yes. My hometown is HCM city so there are lots of fascinating places for the visitors to go. If I
have to recommend a place for they to go, I will tell them to visit the Nha Rong harbour. It is where HCM
– the president of VN left VN to find a way to save his country, he accepted to face the danger to gain the
independence and freedom of the country. I believe that they will be attracted by the Frend architecture
and the history in that places.

4. Has your hometown changed much these years?

I think that my hometown hasn’t changed much. It is still as hustle and bustle as in the past.

5. Do you know much about the history of your hometown?

I know many information about the history of my hometown. I was taught the history when I was a
secondary student. Although I don’t study the history anymore, I still remember a little bit about the
knowledge that I learned.

6. What is the best time to come to your hometown?

From my point of view, I think that visitors can have the best experiences if they come to my hometown
in Spring. During that period, the weather is clear and cool so they can easily do many activities and pay
a visit in many famous places in HCM city.
TOPIC 2: HOME/ ACCOMMODATION
1. Do you live in a house or an apartment?

I’m living in a spacious house , which is located in Binh Chanh district in HCM city. I love the French
architecture of my house, it has a stunning design by my dad friend, who is skillfully architect.

2. Who do you live with?

I’m currently living with my family members. There are 5 people in my family: my parents, my brother,
my sister and me. At weekends, we usually gather together and talk about each other’s week.

3. What is your favorite room in your house?

To be honest, I love my bedroom the most.I spend most of my time when I at home in there. For me,
I feel private in my bedroom and I can do whatever I like without bothering the others. That is the
best place for me to let my hair down after a stressful day at university.

4. Which part of your house needs to be improved?

I think I would like to make some changes with my garden. I will plant some more kind of my favorite
plants and flowers and put a swing under the big tree so I can read books and let my hair down there.

5. What can you see when you look out of your window?

When I look out of my window, I can see many plants and trees in my garden. When I feel stress, I will
open my window, take a fresh breath and look at these plants. It is the best way for me to unwind.

6. Will you move house in the future?

Although I will miss the great time I live in my house, I think I will move to another house in the future.
My house is far from the city center and it is quite difficult for me to go to my university and my
workplace in the future. If I have an opportunity, I will move to the center of the city that near my
university.
TOPIC 3: BIRTHDAY
1. When is your birthday?

My birthday has just passed 2 months ago. I was born on the nineth of March. On my birthday this year, I
had a great time and memorable birthday with my family members and my friends at the restaurant.

2. What do you usually do on your birthday?

On my birthday, I usually hang out with my family members and my close friends to celebrate my
birthday. We organize a small party at the restaurant, where we can gather together and share the
happiness.

3. What do you think about a surprise birthday party?

Well, I think everyone likes surprises so that is a great idea. If I were given a surprise party, I would be
burst into tears of happiness. I will keep that meaningful memory close to my heart.

4. What gifts do people often receive on their birthday?

Well, I think it depends on who receives the present. If the receivers are kids, their family and friends will
give them a letter of a toy. And if the receivers are adults, they will receive a bunch of flowers, a necklace
or simply a book.

5. Where do people often celebrate their birthday?

In my opinion, it depends on whose birthday it is. For the introverted people, they prefer a home –
cooked meal and gather with their family members. Others often go to restaurants to have a big party to
mark an important milestone in their life.

6. Is celebrating birthday important?

From my point of view, I believe that celebrating birthday is crucial for me. No matter how busy I am, I
will still hold my birthday party every year to celebrate the day I was born. I think celebrating a birthday
will be an occasion for family and friends to gather and share a memorable memory together.
TOPIC 4: FRIENDS
1. Do you have many friends?

Honestly speaking, I’m an introverted person so I don’t have many friends. I’ve only had a few friends when I was in
high school, and since I enroll in my university, I just only had 3 friends.

2. Do you prefer to have one close friend or have many friends.

As I said, I’m introverted so I would like to have one close friend who will always listen and understand me, the one
I can trust to share all my secrets with and is willing to help me whenever I need.

3. What is the best quality of a good friend?

In my opinion, the most essential quality of a good friend should be loyal. They never talk behind your back, willing
to be by your side in any situation and give you a hand when you need.

4. How can you often spend your time with friends?

When we have spare times in the weekend, we often hang out together. We go shopping, go the the cinema to
watch a movies or go to the café to chat about our life to let our hair down after a stressful week of studying.

5. How did you meet your bestfriend?

As far as I remember, the first time I met my best friend was on the first day of my high school ceremony. I
remember that when we first met, I was impressed by her friendliness and sociability. She saw me sitting alone so
she came to talk to me. After a few conversations, we found that we had lots of things in common. And since then,
we have become close friends for 4 years.

6. What makes a friendship last long?

In my view, the main factor for a long lasting friendship is have trust in each other. When they trust their friends,
they will become each other’s companions throughout their life. Moreover, They could be a reliable supporter
when their friends encounter difficulties.

TOPIC 5: WORK
1. What do you do?

I’m currently a freshman at Van lang university, majoring in Pharmacy. To be honest, it was not my first
choice, I chose this major simply because my parents want me to pursue this career path.

2. What do you like about your job/major?

Initially, I did not like this major at all, but after 2 semesters of studying in my university, I think that I
chose the right major. Generally, the best thing about my major is I have an opportunity to study with
the knowledgeable and dedicated lecturer who widen my specialized knowledge.

3. What do you dislike about your job/major?

Honestly speaking, I feel pressured with my tight study schedule. After studying at university, I still have
to learn a large amount of knowledge to prepare for the test in the next day. This makes me have no
time to rest.

4. Are you going to change your job/major?

I don’t think so. I’m love my healthcare major and I think this is the right choice for me. I like wearing my
white blouse and helping people. I enjoy using my knowledge to treat the illness and improve their
quality of life.

5. What needs to be improved in your workplace/school?

I think it would be better if the parking lot in my school improved. The number of students at my school
is too large but the parking lot is too small. This makes me feel annoyed, I have to go to school early for
about an hour to avoid running out of parking spaces.

6. Can you cooperate with the other co-workers/classmate?

Of course, yes. Although I’m an introverted person, I have a good teamwork skill. I have worked in groups
with many people at university. they said that I am good at solving problems and leading them to
complete their work effectively, and most of them want to cooperate with me again in the future
projects.
TOPIC 6: STUDY
1. What subjects did you like the most when you were at school?

When I was a student, I enjoyed studying English, which is one of the compulsory subject at school. I
interested in English because it helps me to communicate and get to know foreign friends, it is also a
very important factor for me to advance my job career in the future.

2. Do you think that students are learning too many subjects at school now?

In my point of view, I don’t think so. I think that study many subjects provides students with a well-
rounded knowledge. All the subjects are interconnected, so that they must study all of the subjects.

3. What did you like the most when you were at primary school?

It’s a long time ago so I don’t really remember the period I study at primary school. The thing that I liked
most was the playground there. I love the time I and my childhood friends played there in the break
time.

4. What did you do in your leisure time in your primary schools?

When I was in my primary school, during the break time, I often went to the canteen to buy some drinks
and snacks there and went to the playground to play some traditional games with my friends.

5. Have you ever returned to see your old school again?

To be honest, I’m really busy with my university life, I have too much deadlines and asignments to do so I
don’t have any free time to come back to my old school. If I have an opportunity, I will return to my old
school in someday.

6. Do you think the traditional classroom will be disappear in the future?

With the rise of the technology, there are lots of online class. Online learning have many benfits. The
outstanding advantge of it is Students can study remotely without going to traditional classroom.
However, distance learning is not effective for primary and secondary students because they are often
unable to study on their own. So I think traditional classroom can’t be replaced by the online ones.
