16MEC415A PRODUCT DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
To appreciate the importance, various stages, concepts, management and prototyping of products.
Course Educational Objectives:
CEO1: To understand the basic concepts of Product Design and Process Development.
CEO2: To identify the customer needs, convert in to product specifications and compare the opportunities to plan and develop the product.
CEO3: To acquire knowledge about generation, testing and finalizing the concept of product development.
CEO4: To gain knowledge on design of product architecture and design for manufacturing factors.
CEO5: To recognize the basics, technologies and requirements of prototyping and product management skills for product design and development.
UNIT – 1: INTRODUCTION
Introduction – Characteristics of successful product development – Duration and cost of product development – Challenges – Generic development
process – Concept development: The front end process – Adaptation of the Generic product development process – Product development process flow –
Product development organization.
Course Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to:
Launch own ideas and the ideas of others, which would enable them to manage to work with innovation and development in large companies
Apply new theories on innovation and change, including emerging paradigms such as user driven innovation, open innovation and market
forecasting in practice.
