Direction for questions 12 & 13: In question numbers 12 and 13, a statement of
Assertion (A) is followed by a statement of Reason (R). Choose the correct
option.
Q12. Assertion (A): The surface area of the cuboid formed by joining two cubes of
sides 4 cm each, end to end, is 160 cm2.
Reason (R): Surface area of a cuboid of dimensions l × b × h is (lb × bh × hl).
(a) Both Assertion (A) and Reason (R) are true and Reason (R) is the correct
explanation of Assertion (A).
(b) Both Assertion (A) and Reason (R) are true but Reason (R) is not the correct
explanation of Assertion (A).
(c) Assertion (A) is true but Reason (R) is false.
(d) Assertion (A) is false but Reason (R) is true.
Q16. A circus tent is cylindrical up to a height of 4 m and conical above it. If the
diameter of the base is 98 m and the slant height of the conical part is 33 m, then
find the canvas used in making the tent.

Case Study II
The Great Stupa at Sanchi is one of the oldest stone structures in India, and an important
monument of Indian Architecture. It was originally commissioned by the emperor
Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE. Its nucleus was a simple hemispherical brick structure
built over the relics of the Buddha. .It is a perfect example of combination of solid
figures. A big hemispherical dome with a cuboidal structure mounted on it. Height of
the hemispherical dome is 21 m and radius of its base is 14 m. The cuboidal shaped
top has dimensions (l × b × h) i.e. (8 m × 6 m × 4 m).
Q3. Find the area of the cloth required to cover the hemispherical dome and cuboidal
at the top.
