CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

This study will explore how emmersive travel experiences impact the career
preparedness of tvl students. Immersive travel is a growing trend in the travel industry,
offering travelers a deeper, more meaningful experience than a traditional vacation. It goes
beyond simply seeing the sights and encourages travelers to engage with the local culture,
traditions, and way of life. This approach creates a more enriching and fulfilling journey,
fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the destinations explored.

Based on the study conducted of Roble, D.M.L. (2021). The work readiness of senior
high school students in the Philippines enrolled in the Technical Vocational and Livelihood
(TVL) program, focusing on the alignment between employer expectations and students’
skills. Data was collected from 84 TVL students and 18 employers using a descriptive
correlational method. The results showed that both groups valued skills like collaboration,
critical thinking, and entrepreneurship, but there were notable differences in expectations
regarding occupational health and communication. Additionally, student performance during
work immersion varied by specialization and academic track, but not by gender or
socioeconomic status. These findings suggest that the TVL curriculum may need adjustments
to better meet industry demands and prepare graduates for employment.

As stated by Podolskaya, T., & Volodina, A. (2023). The increasing use of immersive
technologies, such as augmented reality and virtual reality, in the international tourism
industry, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The authors highlight benefits like
allowing potential tourists to virtually explore destinations before booking and helping them
navigate unfamiliar locations. While these technologies may not replace traditional tourism,
the authors suggest that their effective implementation can enhance competitiveness,
particularly as younger generations favor digital experiences.
The study faces several challenges in defining and measuring career preparedness for
TVL students, finding a representative sample, controlling for pre-existing differences,
accounting for other factors influencing career readiness, generalizing findings to all TVL
students, ensuring data availability and quality, and upholding ethical considerations. These

challenges highlight the importance of careful planning, data collection, and analysis to
ensure the study’s reliability and generalizability.

Our rationale for conducting this study is to determine the impact of immersive travel
on the career readiness of students. This research is significant because it will help us
understand the importance of skills development in preparing ourselves for the future. This
study aims to answer questions about the impact of immersive travel experiences on the
career readiness of TVL students. We anticipate that this research will be beneficial to
teachers, students, and curriculum developers. This study aimed to assess the effects of
immersive travel experiences on students’ preparedness for their careers

Local

According to Roble, D. M. L. (2021). Competency level, employers’

expectations and work immersion performance of senior high school
Technical-Vocational and Livelihood (TVL) students.
This study investigated the work readiness of senior high school
students in the Philippines who participated in the Technical Vocational
and Livelihood (TVL) program. The research aimed to identify the
alignment between employer expectations and the actual skills and
knowledge possessed by these students. The study collected data from 84
TVL students and 18 employers using a descriptive correlational method
The findings indicated that employers and students generally shared
similar views on the importance of skills such as collaboration, critical
thinking, and entrepreneurship. However, there were significant
differences in expectations regarding occupational health and
communication.
The study also revealed that student performance during work
immersion varied based on their chosen specialization and strand, but not
their gender or socioeconomic background. These findings suggest that
the TVL curriculum might need adjustments to better align with industry
demands and ensure graduates are well-prepared for employment.

As stated by Rieta, M. C. R., Desingano, C. R., & Villanueva, M. C. D.

(2023).This research study investigated the work immersion readiness of
Grade 12 students in the West Cluster of the Division of Cavite Province
during the 2022-2023 school year. The study aimed to assess students’
academic performance, readiness levels, and attitudes and values related
to work immersion. The researchers used a Work Immersion Preparedness
Tool to gather data from students, which was then analyzed using
statistical methods. The findings indicated that most students in the West
Cluster had high academic performance, with a majority scoring between
90-100. The study also found that students in the ICT specialization were
considered “very much ready” for work immersion, while those in the
Academic Strand, Home Economics, and Programming specializations
were deemed “moderately ready.” Students in the SMAW and EIM
specializations were considered “slightly ready.” The study also identified
positive attitudes and values among the students, including good common
sense, a passion for improvement, patience, and listening skills. However,
the study acknowledged its limitations in not using a correlational design
to explore relationships between variables. Nevertheless, the study
provided valuable insights into the preparedness of students for work
immersion experiences.

Global

Based on Hoang, S. D., Dey, S. K., Tučková, Z., & Pham, T. P. (n.d.).
Harnessing the power of virtual reality: Enhancing telepresence and
inspiring sustainable travel intentions in the tourism industry.
Study explored the potential of virtual reality (VR) to enhance
telepresence and encourage both VR use and travel intentions within the
context of sustainable tourism. The researchers conducted an online
survey with 512 local and international tourists in Vietnam after they
participated in a VR experiment. Participants were divided into two
groups: one using VR headsets to experience a sustainable tourist
destination focused on nature, and the other viewing the same destination
on a 2D screen.
The results showed that VR-based tours fostered a greater sense of
telepresence compared to 2D presentations. While VR was not seen as a
replacement for actual travel, participants who used VR reported higher
intentions to use VR in the future and to visit the destination in real life.
This was attributed to their increased telepresence and enjoyment of the
VR experience. The findings suggest that VR can be a valuable tool for
promoting nature-based sustainable tourism, with further research
needed to explore its application in other tourism sectors, including
extreme activities.

The study conducted by Kresic, D., & Gjurasic, M. (2022). Slow

tourism’is a holistic tourism concept that promotes sustainability in all
aspects of a traveller’s journey. It is a promising alternative to mass
tourism with which tourists, destination managers, and tourism service
providers are willing to engage. In academic research, there is little
consensus on what ‘slow’means and how it is practiced or interpreted in
relation to different tourism contexts, cultures, and mobilities. Therefore,
this paper aims to explore the concept of slow tourism, its evolution and
current scope. Moreover, the paper presents a new insight into scientific
production through bibliometric analysis, not previously fully clarified in
hospitality and tourism research. Data for the study is generated from
English-language journal articles that were produced from a Scopus
database search of specific keywords associated with slow tourism. The
findings indicate that the research interests on slow tourism is growing
remarkably and is related to slow travel and food, sustainability, and an
immersive travel experience. Keywords: slow tourism, sustainability, local

Fan, X., Jiang, X., & Deng, N. (2022). Conducted examines the use of
augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) in the tourism sector through a
meta-analytic framework that includes 24 constructs from 65 independent
studies. It identifies “presence” as a key feature influencing tourism experiences,
revealing that its effects can vary directly or indirectly via value perception and
psychological responses. Additionally, factors such as simulation type and social
interaction enhance the impact of presence, while prior visitation negatively
affects it. The research highlights the significance of these findings for the
advancement of AR and VR technologies in tourism.

Moreover, Sharma, I., & Aggarwal, A. (2024).

literature. The analysis identified relevant themes, pros, and cons, as well as
suggested future research possibilities in this discipline. HAT is rapidly adopting
AI technology to improve customer service, operational efficiency, travel
experiences, and sustainability. There is a growing body of research on this
topic, but a thorough and systematic understanding is needed to determine the
most effective AI applications and recommend areas for further investigation.
This chapter discusses how machine learning, natural language processing, and
robotics may improve tourist and hospitality consumer experiences and
efficiency. This chapter covers AI in travel, from chatbots for customer service to
autonomous cars to VR/AR for immersive experiences. AI disrupts customers and
companies in personalisation, decision-making, and predictive analytics. These AI
technologies’ ability to revolutionise the business provides a futuristic view of
travel and tourism.

focused on identifying difficulties related to family support, supervisory support,
work habits, and competence. The researchers surveyed 50 students from
Vicente Madrigal National High School using a questionnaire checklist. Data
analysis revealed that while family and supervisory support were generally
positive, students encountered difficulties with limited site visits and tasks not
always aligned with their strand. The study concluded that while family income
and gender were not significant factors in student difficulties, the lack of
practical experience in basic hardware and software troubleshooting was a
notable challenge.

students’ chosen fields of study and their gender. However, no significant
differences were observed in students’ attitudes towards their chosen
professions based on their field of study.

The body of research on work immersion programs in the Philippines

reveals a complex picture of both benefits and challenges. While studies
consistently highlight the positive impact of work immersion on students’ skills
development and career preparedness, particularly in fostering teamwork,
communication, and professionalism, several challenges persist. Work immersion
programs hold immense potential for equipping Filipino students with the skills
and experience they need for future success. However, continued research and
development are crucial to address the challenges Identified in these studies and
ensure that work immersion programs are effective, relevant, and provide
students with the necessary tools to thrive in their chosen careers.

Research Design

The survey questionnaire will be used as the primary research instrument

in this shudy, which will be conducted using a descriptive research method. As
stated by Voxco (2000), The descriptive research design entails collecting data
using a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods to accurately
describe a research problem. A descriptive research design is a type of research
design that seeks Information in order to describe a phenomenon, situation, or
population in a systematic manner, it specifically assists in answering the what,
when, where, and how questions about the research problem, cather than the
why. According to Scott (2012). The main objective of descriptive research is to
describe the current situation as it stands. That the researcher has no influence
over the vasables is the method’s primary attribute

This study will employ a descriptive research design using a survey

questionnaire as the primary research instrument. The objective is to investigate
the impact of immersive travel experiences on the career preparedness of Grade
12 students in New Cabatan Senior High School during the school year 2024-
