Tiedown and Securing NOTES


W h e n p a r k e d o v e r n i g h t or d u r i n g h i g h
winds, the aircraft should be securely
m o o r e d and the p r o t e c t i v e covers in place.
Wheel chocks should be placed fore and aft
of t h e m a i n gear wheels and n o s e w h e e l .
Only in severe conditions should the p a r k -
ing b r a k e be set. Using the aircraft m o o r -
ing points, suitable chain or rope can secure
the aircraft (Figure 10-1). C o n t r o l surface
locks should be installed and flaps should
be up (Figure 10-2).

The aircraft has free-spinning p r o p e l l e r s


t h a t could be h a z a r d o u s if not r e s t r a i n e d
(Figure 10-3). If the p r o p e l l e r windmills
t h e e n g i n e r e d u c t i o n g e a r b o x g e a r s and
bearings rotate without lubrication.
