PREFACE
As per the curriculum of 4th Semester BBA part II, we had to undergo
through a project study based on the market survey. I approached
Google Form for the research process, made a questionnaire containing
15 questions relating to the topic “PERFORMANCE
MEASUREMENT MODEL OF ONLINE LEARNING APP
BYJU’S.” to know the response of the people and their take on
BJYU’S, The Learning App so as to measure the overall performance
of it.
In this project I have put my best efforts to compile the data to the
highest level of accuracy and give my views to the best of my
judgement. None of the information is copied or unethical and all the
information of the primary data in the report is based on my survey to
get the best and pure content which must not result in inappropriate
conclusions, hopefully this research will bring out the most appropriate
conclusions about every question asked in the survey. The respondents
were not forced to perform in the survey, they had their free consent to
participate in the survey conducted through the Google Form.

CHAPTER – 1
INTRODUCTION
1
Technology has influenced almost all the sectors from the past few
years, including education. In past years, education was only associated
with offline learning and school-based teaching. But with time, there is
a change in the education system and the way students learn. The world
has witnessed a revolutionary way to impart education after the
invention of the Education Apps. It has accommodated a new pattern
of learning for kids, teachers, parents and students. It has changed the
conventional learning methods. Students nowadays have all the
instruments needed to enhance their learning through educational apps
and e-learning platforms. Now, students are not confined within an area
to learn sitting among other students. They can educate themselves by
sitting in their homes and by attending virtual classes. Day by day,
technocrats are working on improving the performance of Education
Apps. So, it is possible that in the future, e-learning, Education Apps,
and online classes will become the mode of learning.
Educational apps have made learning easily accessible to all with just
a click of a button. The Educational apps have worked as a bridge
between kids and teachers and between parents and teachers. With the
arrival of Education Apps for kids, education has become fun and
interactive among all ages of students. In this modern age of
digitalization, Education apps play a crucial role in students’ learning
process both inside and outside the classroom, making it more
interactive, immersive and engaging.
2
Education Apps for kids can make them learn in an easier way with the
help of animation, pictures, videos rather than text and descriptive
information. Thus, they can enjoy learning, and their interest in studies
will also increase. Students will no longer find studies boring and
burdensome; instead, their learning will become fun. The Education
Apps for students are a fantastic way of keeping teaching methods
fresh. Educational apps are revolutionizing the world of education.
These are designed in such a way that they align with the processes of
children’s learning and development. These Education Apps also
promote active, meaningful, fun-based and socially interactive
learning. In this way, Education Apps add a great touch of value to the
learners.
3
The Covid-19 had resulted in the closing of schools all across the
world and thus, has further brought with itself a great momentum for
the accelerated adoption of digital learning and education. As a result,
e-learning methods have been adopted fastly by teachers, students and
parents. The reasons for the acceptability of e-learning through
Education Apps are that online classes are easy to use, provide learning
flexibility, no physical interaction, and a controllable environment.
However, despite its multiple advantages, there are quite a few
limitations of e-learning, such as social isolation, connectivity issues,
etc. Education Apps have never been adopted and accepted as real
learning or the formal mode of education before this ongoing
pandemic. Now, at the pandemic crisis, most educational institutions
are exploring various e-learning platforms such as education apps for
kids, online classrooms, etc. Also, teachers and educators are exploring
different e-teaching software to bring maximum possible ease for their
students.
4
The BYJU’S Learning App provides students with a holistic learning
experience. Students across regions can access the study material
online created by the best teachers for free by downloading the BYJU’S
App. Student study journey is planned and executed at the deepest level
with experts, teachers and tools like videos, interactive animations,
quizzes and assessments. The BYJU’S App integrates lessons and
assessments along with analysis and recommendations, personalized to
suit each student’s learning style. It is one of the most loved apps for
students across age groups.

Biotechnology from RV College of Engineering in Bengaluru. Byju
encouraged her to become a teacher and her career started in 2008. In
2021, she was awarded ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’. At Byju’s, Divya
manages content, user experience and brand marketing.
8
HISTORY OF BYJU’S
BYJU'S' app was developed by Think and Learn Pvt. Ltd, a company
which was established by Byju Raveendran, Divya Gokulnath and a
group of students in 2011. Byju, an engineer by profession was
coaching students in mathematics since 2006. In initial days the
company focused on offering online video-based learning programs for
the K-12 segment and for competitive exams. In 2012, the firm entered
Deloitte Technology Fast 50 India and Deloitte Technology Fast 500
Asia Pacific ratings and has been present there ever since.
In August 2015, the firm launched BYJU'S: The Learning App. In
2017, they launched BYJU'S Math App for kids and BYJU'S Parent
Connect app. By 2018, it had 15 million users out of which 9,00,000
were paid users at that time. In the same year, BYJU'S became India’s
first edtech unicorn. By 2019, 60% of BYJU’S students were from non-
metros and rural cities. During the pandemic BYJU’S saw an
exponential growth in its subscribers and as of 2021 it has 115 million
registered students.
9
MAJOR ACQUISITIONS BY BYJU’S
Byju’s has made approximately eleven (11) acquisitions and the ed-
tech giant has spent over $1.43 billion for the acquisitions. The
following are the most popular acquisitions made by the ed-tech giant:
10
Acquisition of Aakash Educational Services Limited (2021)
In January 2021, Byju’s acquired the Blackstone Group-backed Aakash
Educational Services Ltd. (“AESL”) in a cash stock deal for nearly
$1billion. AESL is a public unlisted company with 33+ years of
experience, provides curriculum-based coaching for K-12 students and
test preparatory services for several competitive exams.
11
• Khaitan & Co. advised AESL and its founders on the sale of their
shares to Byju’s.
• Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas advised Byju’s and Tri legal
advised the Blackstone Group.
12
HOW IT WORKS
Initially, the student has to provide all the personal details. Then a free
trial period of 15 days is given to the users in order to try the services.
After the trial period, if the payment is done, the students get access to
more advanced levels of learning.
Stage 1: Students are asked to attend the classes they have enrolled in
using the app
Stage 2: Then they are asked to take up multiple tests with personalized
feedback.
Stage 3: Classroom sessions are conducted by IIT/IIM graduates at the
centre near them. Currently, this service is being provided in Gurgaon,
Pitampura, Janakpur, Noida, Rohini, etc.
Stage 4: One-to-one mentoring & doubt clearing by experts is done.
Stage 5: Access to in-depth analysis and a real time feedback is given
to the parents using the parent app.
Stage 6: After the completion of the above stages, a complete revision
of the whole content is done again in-order to gain better understanding.

CHAPTER-2
LITERATURE
REVIEW
24
A scale of previous studies was used to assess the degree of innovation,
“A literature review is a text of scholarly paper, which includes the
current knowledge, substantive findings, as well as theoretical and
methodological contribution to a particular topic. Literature review are
secondary sources, do not report new or original experimental work.”
Some of the literature reviews related to the study are:
● Dr. Sangeeta Mukherjee (March 2020): The technological
innovations that are adopted by BYJU’S are highly helpful to students
to understand basic and complex concepts in a very short time. The
BYJU’S App uses web-based learning, visual learning, and
personalized learning which altogether provide an immersive learning
experience to students. One of the findings is that the advertisement
claims that the app makes an interactive learning experience. The
premium subscription is a bit costly for the average earning Indian
consumer.
26
● Forbes (October 2019): found that the backbone of BYJUS app
personalized learning is its rich learning profile. Graphs of over one
lakh concepts and relationships that have been created to design
personal learning journeys- videos, questions, adaptive flows, quizzes,
flashcards, correctional learning videos, and so on. Additionally, the
learning content is also tagged to multiple other properties and
parameters. This content is tagged at the sub micro concept level which
helps the algorithms create a smooth learning curve for the student so
that they feel challenged, yet motivated
● IBEF (April 2019): Online education in India is growing fast and
many students have access to smart phones, computers, and the
internet. Integrating technology is the need of the hour since everything
is going digital. India has the largest K-12 students in the world with
over 260 million students. Also, there is a rise in low-cost smart phones,
accessibility to the internet among the students is increasing.
● Dr. BADA, Steve Olusegun (December 2015): Found that
process of learning is individual to the learner. The learner tries to relate
each and everything to the real world what he or she has learned.
Constructivism refers to self-learning and knows how to learn things
more conceptually. It emphasized critical thinking and decision making

RESEARCH
METHODOLOGY
28
Research is done for collecting the information that helps to solve
certain problems effectively. It is a frame work with a specific logic
from the researcher to find out a reasonable solution for a problem. It
is a step-by-step activity which needs to be accurate and should have a
reasonable solution for a problem.
The sample population includes the respondents who are the customers
of BYJU’S or are aware of the offerings of BYJU’S in India. The
sample size of 150 was selected. The samples were chosen by using the
purposive sampling technique, which is a non-probability sampling
technique, because the exact population size is unknown, and the
accessibility to all the customers is difficult. The survey method of data
collection was used in this research. The primary data was collected
using a structured questionnaire.
29
school-level study materials, home learning program, etc. Byju’s, one
of the most valued edtech companies in the world, has played a major
role in transforming Indian education scenario. This paper helps to
investigate and get a clear picture of the possibility of Byju’s App in
enhancing personalized learning. The findings of the study will also be
useful to understand the performance of BYJU’S app and how far it
transforms the traditional scenario of learning, by incorporating
modern methods of E-learning techniques.
