    MODERN ART

    1860 - 1970
    The term is usually associated with art in which traditions were changed
    and artists started with experimentation. Fresh ideas and new
    interpretation were adopted. The most recent artists production is often
    called Contemporary art or post-modern art.
    Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Georges
    Seurat and Henri de Toulouse-Lautre pioneered the development of
    modern art.
    There are 9 categories of Modern style of painting
    . Fauvism
    . Cubism
    . Futurism
    . Vorticism
    . Suprematism
    .Constructism
    . Dada
    . De stiji
    . Surrealism

    Pre cubist Artist who revolutionized art world with wild, multi coloured
    expressive landscapes and figure paintings, often this art is referred as
    Fauvism. Crude brushstrokes and vivid colours straight from tubes
    characterize Fauvism

    Andre Derain, Raoul Defy, Jean Metzinger, Maurice De Vlaminck.


    Cubism – 19th century- Pablo Picasso
    The theory of using 3 solids: cube, sphere and cone.
    Braque, Marcel Duchamp, Juan Gris: They developed the idea of cubism
    and introduced different textures, collage elements and paper colle.

    Futurism
    This style is not just an artform, but it embraces sculptures, architecture
    and painting. Use of vibrant colours and strokes. This showcases speed
    and a dynamic style of art. Use of shapes and cubes also seen in this art
    style
    For example: war paintings, automobiles, animals, dancers
    Vorticism
    . Artistic movement that Flourished in England 1912, pioneered by
    Wyndham Lewis.The painting style depicted industrialization. The
    paintings promoted something of a cult of sheer violence. Bold ,3D,
    shapes oriented artform, just opposite to realistic approach
    Surrealism
    . A cultural movement which developed in Europe after the world war 1.
    An attempt to paint the imagination based on the unreal /unconscious
    mind ideas and visuals
    Salvador Dali and Frida Kahlo have done some great work in this genre
