[1] OVERVIEW OF THE ISSUE

The country Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is a landlocked country,


sharing the borders with Eritrea to the north, Djibouti to the northeast, Somalia to
the East, Kenya to the South, South Sudan to the West, and Sudan to the
Northwest.

Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is a country which faces a lot of women


assault, harassment and causes many women to move from one place to another
because of online abuse death threats. The country is also experiencing domestic
Violence against women and Dis equality in gender causing women and girls from
fulfilling their economic, health, and social rights. According to the Ethiopian
Demographic and Health Survey (2016), women aged 15-49, nearly one fourth (23
percent) have experienced physical violence while 10 percent have experienced
sexual violence. At least one out of every three women (34 percent) in Ethiopia has
experienced spousal violence.
Despite some legislative and institutional measures, several factors continue to
hamper women and girls to live a life free of violence. More than 100,000 women
may have been raped during the two-year civil war in Ethiopia's northern Tigray
region.

[2] Proposal

The country Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has been facing the
problems like rape, harassment, online abuse death threats causing many women to
move from one place to another. The country also has been facing domestic
violence against women dis equality in gender. These problems can be solved by
raising voice against women rights not only in the Federal Democratic Republic of
Ethiopia but in other countries like this too, we need to believe women are no weak
than men and give them the opportunities in education, employment and
leadership. Community services like Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)
need to created, VAWG is one of the most systematic, widespread human rights
violations faced globally. In Ethiopia, VAWG continues to be a major challenge
and a threat to women’s empowerment and wellbeing like

the Ethiopian government has also created some organizations such as the
Ethiopian Women Association (EWA) which mainly focuses on stopping
some dangerous cultural practices done against women and girls like FGM
which involves removing some parts of their private organs. The country has
also added increased the maternity leave available from 90 to 120 days
similar to that in the civil service. It has also included a definition of sexual
harassment and applicable punishments.
