A 900 MHZ WIRELESS POWER TRANSFER TRANSMITTER DESIGNED ON A

PCB, USING THE MINI-CIRCUITS GVA-91+ POWER AMPLIFIER AND

ULTRASONIC SENSOR-BASED CONTROL

1.ABSTRACT:

In recent years, rapid advancements in technology have significantly increased the demand for
wireless power transfer (WPT), with applications spanning the Internet of Things (IoT), portable
devices, electric vehicles, and smart appliances. The design of WPT systems has become a key focus,
particularly in improving output power, efficiency, frequency stability, and reducing system size.
Traditional WPT systems typically operate at lower frequencies, which limits transmission distance and
leads to larger circuit sizes, often requiring bulky PCB-based designs. However, by utilizing higher
operating frequencies, such as 900 MHz, WPT systems can achieve longer transmission ranges and
more compact form factors. Additionally, the integration of 900 MHz power amplifier technology
enables higher power outputs and greater efficiency, making it an ideal choice for applications that
require both extended range and reduced system size.
In this competition, the operating frequency is set to 900MHz, using a GVA-91+ power amplifier
manufactured by Mini-Circuits. The output power of the amplifier is controlled by an Arduino-based
sensor system, which manages the Enable pin of the power amplifier. By adjusting the Enable pin, the
system regulates the transmitted power under specific conditions.

2. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROPOSED SYSTEM:

In this Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) system, the transmitter (Tx) consists of a power amplifier
connected to an antenna. The power amplifier generates high-frequency AC power, which is then
transmitted through the antenna as electromagnetic waves. The output of the amplifier is controlled
through an Arduino-based system with a light sensor.
On the receiver (Rx) side, the received power is captured by another antenna, and a matching
network is used to ensure efficient power transfer between the antenna and the rest of the circuit.
The AC signal is then converted to DC using a bridge rectifier, providing a stable DC voltage. This DC
power is used to drive a LED or other low-power devices.

The overall system efficiently transmits power wirelessly from the transmitter to the receiver,
with the DC output providing energy to the connected load (LED in this case).

3. OVERVIEW OF THE COMPONENTS

GVA-91+:
The Mini-Circuits GVA-91+ is a high-performance wideband amplifier built using GaAs HBT
technology, offering excellent gain, power output, and power-added efficiency. It delivers consistent,
repeatable performance across different manufacturing lots, making it a reliable choice for various RF
applications. The amplifier is housed in an SOT-89 package, ensuring good thermal management.
Additionally, it is RoHS compliant, meeting environmental standards. This makes the GVA-91+ a
versatile and efficient solution for applications requiring high gain and power efficiency.

The RCWL-1601 is a motion sensor based on microwave radar technology, designed to detect the
movement of objects. It works by emitting microwaves and receiving the reflected signals to identify
motion, without relying on ultrasonic or optical sensors. This makes it stable in various environments.
The main applications of this sensor include security monitoring, robot line-following, and automation
control systems. Its key advantages are ease of use, non-contact motion detection, high sensitivity,
and resistance to environmental factors such as light, dust, and moisture. It is compatible with a
variety of microcontrollers and can operate stably at both 3.3V and 5V power levels.
