    ABOUT THE TALK :


    This presentation showcases new freight technologies and strategies focused on building a sustainable future.
    Central to this discussion is the concept of the physical internet and smart logistics, which revolutionizes freight
    movement by optimizing efficiency and minimizing environmental impact. The presentation delves into the
    transformative potential of drone delivery and last mile solutions, highlighting their role in reducing urban
    congestion and emissions. Autonomous and electric trucks are examined for their ability to enhance safety and
    operational efficiency while promoting cleaner transportation. Smart border crossings for commercial vehicles
    demonstrate how advanced technologies can streamline customs processes, reducing delays and carbon
    footprints. Additionally, the concept of truck only lanes for automated trucks or truck platooning is analyzed,
    showcasing how dedicated infrastructure can improve traffic flow and fuel efficiency. By integrating these
    innovative technologies and strategies, the freight industry can significantly contribute to a more sustainable and
    efficient future.

    ABOUT THE SPEAKER :


    Dr. Sushant Sharma is a Asst. Program Manager and Research Scientist in the Multimodal Freight Program
    of the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI), Texas A&M University, USA. He has 17 years of experience
    and expertise in freight mobility, planning, network modeling, travel demand modeling, big-data analysis
    and traffic operations. Dr. Sharma has worked on numerous research and consulting projects sponsored by
    Federal Highway Administration, National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), USDOT’s
    University Transportation Centers, and State DOTs in the US.
    Dr. Sharma is a Senior Associate Editor of Transportation Research Records and serves as a reviewer and
    subject matter expert for nearly all transportation research-related journals. Nationally, he serves as the
    Chair of the Freight Transportation Planning and Logistics Committee (AT015) of the Transportation
    Research Board (TRB) and American Society of Civil Engineers' (ASCE) Freight and Intermodal Logistics
    Committee. He is a member of the TRB's Standing Committee on Disaster Response, Emergency
    Evacuations and Business Continuity. Internationally, he chairs the Freight Transport Modeling Group of the
    World Conference on Transportation Research Society (WCTRS). TRB Committee led by Dr. Sharma
    received the 2023 and 2024 Blue Ribbon Awards for implementing research into practice and promoting
    committee diversity. Dr. Sharma also received a Best Researcher Award from the TTI in 2023.
