Lat large urban centers. They are great cities of the World

WE tend not to think about how they were originally. Planned.

Or what decisions people took to make them what we call "great".

However, urban planning requires a city to be beautiful, the traffic to move freely,
communications and commercial centers to operate effectively and people to live in clean, safe
and healthy conditions.

So we need organized plans and well-conceived designs AT all stages of the city's brith and
development

The art of designing urban centers is not new. Historians have recorded the plans of many
ancient cities.

Archaeologists can trace signs of urban planning in the cities such in Mesopotamia and south
America, and through Asia.

When Alexander the great walked along the Mediterranean beach, he measured his steps and
pointed out where he wanted the commercial center, the Egyptian city of Alexandria to be
built: where the main harbor should be located, where temples, palaces, and homes would
rise .

This city is a well-renown urban center of commerce, learning, and philosophy founded in 332
BC when Alexander planned his city in a north-south, east-west grid, practicing urban
planning.

In the United States, as in any new country, it took time for the early citizens to develop well-
defined designs.

The reason is that they wanted future cities teapot to look and function well.
Not long after gaining independence, the new Americans decided to build their capital on the
banks of the Potomac River.

Pierre Charles l'enfant, a French immigrant, artist, engineer, was asked to design with broad
diagonal main avenues to provide hight and fresh air for pedestrians.

A visitor can find today in Washington, DC majesty building and monument, an open-air,
Ceremonial space where we space where we see the domed capitol building as its center

Question 1

ENGLISH TEXT

The digital camera is changing the way that people take pictures. As with most new things,
there are advantages and drabacks to difital cameras.

Traditionnal cameras work by focusing the image onto ligth-sensitive film in the camera. to see
the pictures, the photographer has to send the film to a company that processes it.

while this is a process that can take several days, the quality of the pictures is reliable ans
usually very good.

Digital cameras use no film at all. Rather, they conert the light entering the camera into
information such as that which can be read by the computer. In fact, if you have a computer.
you can view your pictures on the screen.

you can also send the pictures that you took to your friends over the internet. Another
adavantage of digital cameras is that you can see your work immediately.

if you don't like a picture, you can simply erase it by pressing the button.

Some people think that the most serious problem with digital cameras is making copies of the
pictures.

if you don't have a colour printer, you are limited to sharing your pictures with others
electronically.

Also, unless the colour printer is of very high quality, the pictures won't look as good as if they
were taken with the traditionnal camera.

All in all the digital camera has brought a new era in the history of photography.

Electric wire is usually made of copper. copper lets the electric current flow easily through it.
We say that it has a low resistance, but copper is the most useful. There are copper wires in
millions of houses in the world.
These wires carry the current to our lamps. There is a thin wire inside an electric lamp; you can
see it if you look carefully. A thin wire has a higher resistance than a thick one. It tries to stop
the flow of current. Then it gets very hot.

The thin wire is not made of copper; it is made of tungsten. All metals melt when they get hot.
(Mercury melts at a lower temperature than our usual ones). Tungsten does not melt easily. It
has to be very hot indeed before it melts.

When tungsten gets hot, it also gets bright. It shines and gives a good light. it also lasts a long

Both sides face risks in an export transaction. This is because there is always the possibility that
the other side may not fulfill the contrat.

For the exporters there is the risk of buyer default, the customers migth not pay in full for the
goods.

There are several possible reasons for this: the importers might go bankrupt; a war might startr
or the importers' government migth decide to bain imports of certain commodities.

Another possibility is that the importers might run into difficulties getting the foreign exchange
to pay for the goods.

It is even possible that the importers are not reliable and simply refuse to pay the agreed
amount of money.

For the importers there is the risk that the goods will be delayed and they might only receive
them a long time after paying for theim.

This may be caused by port congestionor strikes.

Delays in fulfilment of orders by exports and difficult customs clearance in the importing
country can can cause loss of business.
