Introduction to Work

and Energy
Work and energy are fundamental concepts in physics. They describe the
transfer and transformation of energy within a system.

Defining Work
In physics, work is done when a force causes an object to move a distance.
The work done depends on the magnitude of the force and the distance the
object moves.

3 Direction
The force must be in the same direction as the displacement for
work to be done.
Calculating Work
The work done is calculated by multiplying the force applied by the
distance the object moves. The unit of work is the joule (J).

Work (W) = Force (F) ×

Kinetic Energy
Kinetic energy is the energy an object possesses due to its motion. The
faster an object moves, the more kinetic energy it has.

Speed

1 Faster speed, more kinetic energy.

Mass

2 Heavier mass, more kinetic energy.

Potential Energy
Potential energy is stored energy that an object possesses due to its position or state. There are different types of potential energy,
including gravitational potential energy and elastic potential energy.

Gravitational Elastic

Energy due to an object's height above the ground. Energy stored in a stretched or compressed object.
Conservation of Energy
The law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or
destroyed, only transformed from one form to another.

Efficiency and Power
Efficiency measures how effectively energy is converted from one form to
another. Power measures the rate at which work is done.

Efficiency Power
Ratio of useful energy output Rate at which work is done,
to total energy input. measured in watts (W).
Conclusion
Work and energy are fundamental concepts in physics that explain how energy is transferred and transformed. They have many
applications in our daily lives, from riding a bicycle to generating electricity.
