I would like express my special thanks of

gratitude to my teacher Gaurav Sharma Sir, who
gave me golden opportunity to do this wonderful
project. For the subject of physics on making a
Working Model of a Std XI topic.

I am also thankful to our principal for supporting

me. I came to know about so many things.

I would also like to thank my parents who were

very supportive during this process. Thank you.

Yours Faithfully

Aim
The aim of Tesla’s Valve is to allow fluid to flow only in
one direction without mechanical arrangement.

Apparatus Required
3-D printed Tesla Valve.

Principle
The working principle of a tesla-type valve is based on
a difference in flow distribution between both flow
directions, which results in a difference in pressure
drop for the same inlet flowrate. When the pressure
drop would be identical for both directions, this will
result in a difference in flowrate.

Observations
When water goes through the forward direction, it
reaches the other end in 1.5 seconds and exits in
faster velocity (more pressure).
Whereas, when water goes through the backward
direction it reaches the other end after 4 seconds and
exits in lesser velocity (lesser pressure).

Result
This shows that the Tesla valve is slowing down the
water from going through backwards than forwards.

Advantages
 Durability: The Tesla valve is highly durable
because it does not have any moving parts.
 Flow resistance: The Tesla valve provides more
resistance to the flow of liquid.
 Flow rates: The Tesla valve offers a wider range of
flow rates than other passive valve designs.
 Manufacturing: The Tesla valve is simple to
manufacture.
 Backflow reduction: The Tesla valve allows fluid or
gas to flow in one direction while reducing
backflow in the opposite direction.
 Controlled flows: The Tesla valve provides a clear
path for forward flows, but the route is slower for
reverse flows. This can be beneficial in situations
where flows need to be controlled.

7
Disadvantages
 Reverse flow: The Tesla valve slows down reverse
flow, but does not prevent it.
 Cost: The Tesla valve is expensive.
 Reliability: The Tesla valve is less reliable

Applications
 Membrane-driven or piston-driven micro pumps
 Engines
 Pulse jet engines
 Fluid or gas control systems

Precautions
 Check if there are any leakages.

Sources of error
 Designed incorrectly.
 3-D printing error.
