"Soul Making" in Art

Art has long been considered a means of expressing the soul. It can be through
painting, music, literature, or any other form of artistic expression, the act of creating art
is often seen as a way for an artist to reveal their innermost thoughts, feelings, and
experiences to the world. The process of "soul making" can take many forms, and can
be pursued for a variety of reasons. Moreover, there are many different ways in which
artists can engage in soul making through art. The five categories include: crafting
images, crafting stories, crafting movements, crafting instruments, and crafting
techniques. Ultimately, the process of soul making through art is a deeply personal and
individual one, and will vary from artist to artist.
One reason that artists may seek to make their soul through art is to find a sense
of self-expression and self-discovery. By creating art, they are able to explore their own
thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a way that is deeply personal and meaningful to
them. This can be especially important for those who feel constrained by societal
expectations or who struggle to find a sense of purpose or meaning in their daily lives.
By expressing their innermost thoughts and feelings through art, artists are able to
connect with others in a way that is both deeply personal and universal, and to create a
sense of meaning and purpose in their own lives. In this way, the process of soul
making in art can be a powerful and enriching experience for all those who are involved.

Explanation - apply all the things that you have learned in Art Appreciation
All throughout our discussion in Art Appreciation, I learned that artists engage in
creating art to connect with others and to communicate their experiences and
perspectives to a wider audience. Art has the power to transcend language and cultural
barriers, making it an effective means of communicating ideas and emotions to a wide
range of people. By creating art, artists are able to share their own unique experiences
and perspectives with the world, and to create a sense of connection and understanding
between people of different backgrounds and cultures.
I also learned that painting could have a significant function. There are many
different ways in which artists can relate their art in our society. Some may choose to
create highly personal and introspective works, while others may seek to engage with
social and political issues through their art. Ultimately, the process of painting is a
deeply personal and individual one, and will vary from artist to artist.
Regardless of the specific form that it takes, the act of creating art can be a
powerful and transformative experience for both the artist and those who encounter
their work. Art does not only limit itself to painting since it could be found in music,
dancing, and sculpture. The medium, elements, principles, and function of art varies
from its purpose created by the artists.

Title: Trees in Town
Subject: Landscape
Meaning:
I decided to paint these trees because it depicts the scenery in my hometown.
The painting serves as a commemoration of the town where I grew up, and spend most
of my childhood. It is hardly a reminder, as a consequence that these trees found along
the highway, welcoming into our town was cut off due to road widening. It is unfortunate
that nature is always jeopardize in behalf of modernization and development of our
society. For this reason, I utilize the color blue in painting trees because it also
associated with the feeling of sadness. Furthermore, as I am now spending half of my
life in the city wherein I go to college, I want to paint something that reminds me of
home. It is more of a personal reason for me why I painted tall trees.
Elements:
Lines are what mainly constitutes my artwork since I am painting trees in a
distorted form. The lines here are light wavy and curved, short and long lines, and
above all, it is mostly in horizontal lines. The different lines were used to create
branches, twigs, and trunk of trees. Shapes were also used in my painting to represent
the form of leaves. The shape was circles and they are almost abstract in nature to
create a distorted image of a tree. To give a meaningful depiction of the painting I used
colors. I used intense strength of color such as red and rust to give off a nostalgic
feeling since it is a painting for commemoration. I also make use of the color blue to
radiate the feeling of sadness behind the meaning of the painting.
Principles:
Harmony is clearly present between the colors, especially with how the usage of
rust and red for a nostalgic feeling, united with the subtle shade of blue and purple to
give off a melancholic feeling. These colors are considered bright and vibrant in itself
but I made it look a little bit dull to coordinate with the feeling that the painting radiates.
To prevent monotony by painting brown for trunk, and green for leaves, I used a variety
of colors such as brown, rust, red, blue, and purple so it may be pleasing to the eyes.
Not only that, the variety of colors I chose makes a different because of its dramatic
feeling. Proportion is also evident, as the trees are pointing above, showing a
relationship between the form of one another. The trees are in correct scale, depicting
that the artist is surrounded by trees.
