    InTASC Essay #2

    The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities

    to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards.

    Music is a wonderful way to introduce culture to students. Music is made in every place

    on earth and every culture has different music. Even here in America there are a wide style of

    music that has developed in the two hundred plus years since it was founded. It is the music

    educator’s responsibility to introduce these cultures to their students not only for learn reasons

    but to represent different students that may be present in the ensemble. This not only allows

    students to feel more comfortable in the ensemble but also teaches students about the many kinds

    of music present in the world.

    Inclusion and understanding all students is something that crosses my mind often. It is

    not my goal as an educator to make anyone to feel uncomfortable from something I am doing,

    and I think of ways to introduce new styles of music without appropriating that culture or being

    disrespectful. I understand that I will have a wide variety of students in my classroom and that it

    is my reasonability to make those students feel welcome so that they are able to fully reap the

    benefits of my class. Because of the amount I process information I believe I understand what to

    do but not so much how to do it, I am hopeful and looking forwards to learning.

    In my time at Ball State University, I will take multi-cultural education which will help in

    my knowledge of how to approach issues. Along with this there have been moments in my time
    here questions have arisen and by watching how my professors deal with them has helped me in

    my understanding of how to approach problems appropriately. Learning how to included

    everyone is something Ball State University has already shown me how to do and I can only

    assume that will continue.
