(b) A school buys packs of pens and packs of rulers.

There are 60 pens in each pack of pens. There are 42 rulers in each pack of rulers.

of rope into smaller pieces of equal lengths with no remainders.

(a) What is the greatest possible length of each of the smaller pieces of rope?

(b) How many of the smaller pieces of rope of equal length can he get?

6. Farhan has three pieces of rope with lengths of 140 cm, 168 cm and 210 cm. He wishes to cut all the three

pieces of ropes into smaller pieces of equal length such that there is no leftover rope.

(i) What is the greatest possible length of each of the smaller pieces of rope?

(ii) How many smaller pieces of rope can he get altogether?

∎ HCF-LCM (Type-3):
1. Given that, the HCF of 140 and 𝑥 is 20 and the LCM is 420. Find the value of 𝑥.

2. Given that, 𝑀 = 2𝑝 × 5𝑞 × 7𝑟 and 500 = 22 × 53 .

The HCF of 𝑀 and 500 is 22 × 52 and the LCM is 23 × 53 × 7. Find 𝑝, 𝑞 and 𝑟.

3. (a) Write 216 as a product of its prime factors.

(b) Two positive integers are each greater than 25.

Their lowest common multiple (LCM) is 216. Their highest common factor (HCF) is 18.
