MATHEMATICS PROJECT : 1
CLASS: X [2024-2025]
FOLLOW THE GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS AND PREPARE A PROJECT
* Leave the first page for acknowledgement.
* On the second page in big font write
Project I :: ARITHMETIC PROGRESSION
[DECORATE THIS PAGE AS YOU PLEASE ]
* From the next page onwards write under the following headings:
 What is a sequence?
A sequence is an arrangement of any objects or a set of numbers in a
particular order followed by some rule
Example : a1,a2,a3….an
1,2,3,4,…..

 What is an Arithmetic Progression?

A) Arithmetic Progression (AP) is a sequence of numbers in order, in which the
difference between any two consecutive numbers is a constant value. It is
also called Arithmetic Sequence.
Example : 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,… is an Arithmetic Progression

 The standard form of an Arithmetic Progression, clearly explain the first term and
the common difference.
A) The standard form of AP is a,a+d,a+2d,a+3d.....a (n-1)d
B) The first term on the series is the number with which the series begins. It is denoted
by ‘a’.
C) Common difference is the constant difference between two consecutive terms. It is
denoted by ‘d’.
d=a+d-a=a+2d-a = ………..

 Conditions for an increasing and decreasing Arithmetic Progression.

A) Condition for an increasing Arithmetic progression: The common difference of the
Arithmetic Progression has to be positive.
Eg : 2,5,8,11,14,…is an increasing arithmetic progression with a common difference
+3
B) Condition for an decreasing Arithmetic progression : The common difference of the
Arithmetic Progression has to be negative.
Eg: 1,−2,−5,−8,−11,is a decreasing arithmetic progression with a common difference
-3

 Give examples of few Arithmetic Progression

A) 6, 11, 16, 21, 26, … is an A.P.
7, 4, 1, -2, -5, -8, … is an A.P.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, … is an A.P.

 Derive the formula for the nth term of an Arithmetic Progression

 Derive the formula for the nth term from the end of an Arithmetic Progression
 What is a series?
A) The series is defined as the sum of the sequence where the order of elements does
not matter.
Sn=a1+a2+a3….an

 Derive the formula for the sum of first ‘n’ terms of an Arithmetic Progression
[Gauss’s Method]

* Answer the following questions [attempt each question on a new page].

A. India is competitive manufacturing location due to the low
cost of manpower and strong technical and engineering
capabilities contributing to higher quality production runs.
The production of TV sets in a factory increases uniformly by
a fixed number every year. It produced 16000 sets in 6th
year and 22600 in 9th year.

Based on the above information, answer the following

questions:

1. Find the production during first year.

2. Find the production during 8th year.

3. Find the production during first 3 years.

4. In which year, the production is Rs 29,200.

5. Find the difference of the production during 7th year and 4th
year.

B. If the 2nd of an Arithmetic Progression is 42 and its 10th term is 210 . then find
its 15th term.
C. If the angles of a pentagon are in Arithmetic Progression and the common
difference is 5. Then find the largest angle of the pentagon.
D. Find the 7th term from the end of an Arithmetic Progression ::: 7, 10,
13,.....184.

* Write the conclusion and the bibliography.

* Attempt the project on the project book, cover it neatly and submit it
on the first day of reopening of school after summer vacation.
