Purpose: Standardization of lifting gears colour coding system at TTP-Lot 6 project.

Scope: The colour coding system is a physical identification for usage of Lifting Tools, tackles &
equipment that has been “Tested & Certified for use”.

This SOP applies to all work locations including stores and all project sites of Lot 6 (Temane
Transmission Project) 400 kV Chibuto – Maputo Transmission Lines.

Lifting gears: It is a general term for any equipment / tools that can be used to lift and lower loads, shall mean
a web sling, chain sling, rope sling, hook, pulley block, shackles, tirfors, eye bolt, swivel, Gin pole, derrick pole,
crane etc.

Procedure for Colour Coding:

A) PROCEDURE & FREQUENCY OF TESTING:

A Third-Party TOOLS & PLANTS Testing Agency/Competent person must inspect all lifting equipment,
tools and tackles before initial use at site at a frequency of every six month for lifting tools & once in a
year for lifting machineries. Manufacturer test certificate shall be considered valid for taking the tools /
tackles into first use.

Colour code shall be done on all Tools & Plants which has the valid test certificates for “In Use” or
“Rejected”.

It is the responsibility of individual user to check the physical condition of tested TOOLS & PLANTS
before use.

Only inspected and certified lifting gears shall be used at site for the lifting operation marked with SWL (SAFE
WORKING LOAD) for easy visual identification of the certified/tested & inspected lifting gears.

Keep all the rejected TOOLS & PLANTS in Quarantine area under the custody of storekeeper to avoid
further misusage.

All contractors/service providers are required to follow the quarterly colour code system.
