-Developed Human Validation Process Model
-curious as a child, loved to read at very young age.

-she noticed in meeting her first round of clients she


quickly noticed differences in relationship patterns
between individuals and families.

-author of Conjoint Family Therapy (1983) book

Virginia Satir
covers treatment of families based on a systematic
theoretical framework and family relationship
communication style.

-Virginia believes in healing families, so much to heal


the world.

-Satir model is a strength based approach that


focuses on empowering human growth.
Satir Human Validation Model
Strength based approach:

-All humans have the ability to change


-all humans have internal resources to allow growth

-humans are innately good

-coping is related to a person's level of self-worth

-change occurs from experience which leads to insight

-healthy relationships are based on equality


Goals of Therapy
-Physical: represents the body and all its physical parts.
-Intellectual: the brain should have the ability to be logical, creative, and emotional.

-Emotional: represents feelings and emotions.

-Sensual: includes the senses and responses of the body.

-Interactional: refers to international patterns and the connectedness felt in relationships.

-Nutritional: what we put in our bodies.

-Contextual: refers to feelings of things, sight, sound, environment,temperature and presence of the “now.”

-Spirituality: a person’s spiritual connectedness and life energy.


-Status Quo: knows the need for change
-Introduction of a foreign element: acknowledges
the need for change and is verbalized to an
outside agent such as a friend, therapist.

Structure of -Chaos: begins to make different choices, learning


from past routine. Creating anxiety and fear.

Therapeutic -Integration: evolve from new experiences and

-Practice: Begins to use new skills, change is


stimulated and comfort is found.

-New Status Quo: able to feel confident in new


growth and function at higher levels.
Therapist is an encouraging resource tool and to help
people have stars in their eyes, to truly feel their own value.

Interventions through the Satir Model to find change within


one’s self involves:

-Parts Party: Parts refer to a person's different roles and


resources in life.

-Family Sculpting: live portrait of how a family’s dynamics

Therapist Role and relationships are felt and perceived.

-Family Reconstruction: promotes acceptance and


validation of the self, helping them to take responsibility for
their own life choices.

-Metaphors: to engage the creative side of a person’s


thinking.

-Self mandala: the client is at the center and represents the


“I.”
