Assignment: 1

Case Incident:

1) Does the people-first approach apply more to specific businesses or industries than
others? If so, what might they be? Why?

Yes, the people-first approach applies more to specific businesses or industries than others.

Nowadays, there are so many challenges for organizations. As global competition increases,
there are some economic factors and others, so it can take time to satisfy customers. To meet
customers, the employees of an organization need to be happy first. The people-first approach
can be beneficial here.

People-first approach means prioritizing the needs and well-being of an organization’s

employees. This strategy should be applied in more innovative organizations that want high
employee engagement in the workplace. They provide all the facilities to the employees to
ensure they are skilled enough for the company.

When an organization follows the people-first strategy, it will bring success to the organization.
When an employer gives employees a positive work environment and encourages them about
their work, employees feel motivated and will try to give their best to the organization. That’s
why this strategy should be applied.

2) What downside, if any, do you see in working at a company like Great Plains?

A people-first strategy can be beneficial for an organization and for an employee. But there can
be some downsides also. The downsides a company like Great Plains have-
 The company is focused on achieving its goal, so there might be high work pressure.
Some employees can feel that pressure despite having a positive environment.
 As this type of organization frequently arranges skill-based activities, programs, and
various events, some employees can see this as an extra burden.

3) What downsides, if any, do you see in managing a company like Great Plains?

People-first strategy refers to ensuring their employee's satisfaction first. This type of
organization focuses on developing the skills of the employees. For a manager, it is a great
challenge. As Great Plains follows the people-first strategy, the downsides I see in managing a
company like it is-
 To keep the employees engaged in their work, managers take various initiatives. It may
pressure them to always come up with new ideas.
 As there is a flat organizational structure, the decisions can be slower as some
hierarchical layers are missing.

Assignment-2
1
Cognitive dissonance is What we believe and do when there is a mismatch. It is an
incompatibility between our behavior and attitude.

In the given scenario, I am a mid-level manager in a company and a representative of a large

customer has hinted me to give his business if I give him and his family an all-expense-paid
cruise to the Caribbean. In this situation, my decision can lead to a situation of cognitive
dissonance. The representative is giving me such a great deal and if I accept this it will be
unprofessional and conflict with my ethics. I can feel that the offer is huge and can give me
many luxuries. But I would still not be able to accept this due to my ethics. I would feel guilty if
I did this.

Some factors will influence my desire to reduce dissonance. The factors are-
 At first, I will see if the offer is important or beneficial for me or not.
 If I have self-control over myself, I would deny the offer despite seeing the profit because
my morals would not support it.
 If I see there is a reward involved with the offer, there is a chance to survive with the
dissonance.
