4 . INSTALLATION
Installation of measuring heads

1. Mount the measuring head on a previously prepared horizontal

surface. The head must be positioned so that the measured item
passes through the center of the scan zone. Installation and overall
dimensions of the measuring head are shown in Fig. 1.

2. The measuring head should be installed in a horizontal plane.

Deviation from the horizontal axis increases the measurement error.
Measurements must be taken strictly horizontally within the head
scanning area.

3. To dampen vibrations, guide rollers should be installed before and

after the measuring head, especially when the wire is subjected to
strong vibrations.

4. Vibration of the measuring head during operation is not permissible.

Do not mount the measuring on mechanisms subject to strong
vibrations.

5. The measuring head should be installed in a location that prevents

exposure to water, steam, dust, ink from marking machines, and
other substances to prevent corrosion and ensure a longer service
life.

Water on the measured workpiece can introduce a measurement error of up

to 20 μm.

6. The measuring head shall be placed at a minimum distance of 0.7

meters from any high-voltage test equipment.

Installation of the remote terminal

1. Before installing the remote terminal, a rectangular hole needs to be

cut in the panel or cabinet.

2. Do not install the remote terminal in cabinets containing power

equipment, particularly those with frequency converters.

In this menu nominal and tolerance values are set

Dnom [Nominal diameter] [NOMINAL → Dnom]

Nominal outer diameter of the product.

Dmax [Maximum diameter] [NOMINAL → Dmax]

Sets the upper limit for the cable diameter, used for
tolerance control.
For a cable with a nominal diameter of 10.00 mm and a
tolerance of +0.20 mm, the maximum diameter should
be set to 10.20 mm.
The MAX alarm relay will activate if the measured
diameter exceeds this limit.

Dmin [Minimum diameter] [NOMINAL → Dmin]

Sets the lower limit for the cable diameter, used for
tolerance control.
For a cable with a nominal diameter of 10.00 mm and a
tolerance of -0.20 mm, the minimum diameter should
be set to 9.80 mm.
The MIN alarm relay will activate if the measured
diameter exceeds this limit.

SCALE Vout [SETTING → SCALE Vout]

[Scaling of analog outputs]
Scaling of analog outputs.
Sets the absolute deviation (in mm) from the nominal
diameter that results in maximum or minimum voltage
on outputs AO1 and AO2.
This setting applies to both outputs.

Example:
[Dnom] = 10mm, [SCALE Vout] = 5mm,
Then:
D = 10mm → AO1 = 0V, AO2 = 5V;
D = 15mm → AO1 = 10V, AO2 = 10V;
D = 5mm → AO1 = -10V, AO2 = 0V.

- 22 -
Parameter Description
SCALE 4-20 mA [SETTING → SCALE 4-20 mA]
[Scaling of analog
output 4-20 mA] Scaling of the optional 4-20mA analog output.
Sets the absolute measured diameter value in
millimeters at which the current will be equal to 20 mA

Example:
[Dnom] = 10 mm,
[SCALE 4-20mA] = 10 mm
Then:
D1 = 10mm → AT = 20mA;
D1 = 0mm → AT = 4mA;
D1 = 5mm → AT = 12mA.

POSITION This parameter is used to simplify centering and

positioning the measured wire in the center of the
scanning zone. If the measured wire is centered, the
position value is 0. The greater the wire offset from the
center, the greater the parameter value.

Parameter Description
TEST menu [Test]
This menu contains the service information of the meter
: signal voltage; purity of optics; the condition of the
plow and plow

Optical meter signal voltage [TEST → Optical meter signal voltage]

A video signal voltage amplitude of at least 0.8 V is
required. If the voltage falls below this level, it suggests
a decline in laser power and may necessitate
equipment repair.

Purity optical elements [ TEST → Purity optical elements]

Determines the degree of optics purity/contamination.

To determine the optics purity, the device must be
turned off, the wire removed from the
measurement zone, and the device turned back on
(the test procedure takes 6-7 seconds and starts
automatically when power is supplied).

A measured optics purity of 99.99% corresponds to

ideal cleanliness. A decrease in purity below 90.00%
can already lead to a loss of measurement accuracy
and necessitate an optics cleaning procedure. A further
decrease in purity below 60.00% results in incorrect
diameter measurements, even in the absence of a wire
in the measurement zone.

The presence of a wire in the scanning zone

during the device's power-on self-test will
compromise the optics purity measurement,
resulting in falsely low readings (below 50%).

7.4 Built-in Digital Display

The laser diameter gauge features a built-in digital display (Fig. 9) for on-
site viewing of measurement results. This allows the ID-30P/ID-70P to
operate independently without an external terminal if needed.

In operating mode, the measured wire diameter value is displayed in the

top row.

The structure of the parameter menu is shown in Fig. 10. A detailed

description of the parameters can be found in the previous section 7.3
(except for parameter Adr1).

Addr 1 - Modbus port #1 network address. When using this port to

connect a remote terminal, the following address must be set:

8. PERIODIC ACCURACY CHECK

1. Periodic accuracy check is carried out at least once a month.

2. The reference gauge rod of different diameters are fixed in the
center of the passing hole and parallel to the base of the device. (A
set of standard calibrators can be ordered separately).

3. If the device readings do not exceed the permissible error limits, the
check is completed.
4. If the device has an error exceeding the tolerance, maintenance is
required (see Chapter 9).

9 . MAINTENANCE
This procedure is performed when the reading of the Purity of optical
elements is less than 90%, or if it is required by periodic checking (chap. 8).

Maintenance procedure:

1. Remove the plastic plugs, as shown in Fig. 11, to access the

protective glass

Fig . 11 Plastic protective glass plugs

2. Wipe the protective glass using a damp flannel cloth followed by a

dry one.

- 31 -
3. Power on the device without a measurement object. After the 10-
second self-test procedure, enter the TEST menu. The optical purity
value should be within the range of 95.00 - 99.99.
4. If necessary, the video signal (Fig. 12) can be monitored using an
oscilloscope. To do this, connect the oscilloscope probes to the
measurement head bayonet (Fig. 4, pos. 5).

Fig. 19 Video signal oscillogram
a) Oscillogram of the video signal with the measured object. (1) – shadow in the video signal
from the measured object; (2) – dip in the video signal due to contamination of the optical
elements
b) Oscillogram of the video signal without the measured object during the test of the purity of
the optics. The oscillogram shows two dips due to contamination of the optics (2). A deeper
dip is taken into account, i.e. in our example, the purity of the optics is 70%

5. If optical purity is still low and traces of contamination are still

visible on the video signal, the focusing mirrors must be cleaned. To
do this, remove the side covers by unscrewing the screws.

Mirror cleaning is performed similarly to the cleaning of protective

glass using a damp and dry flannel cloth. Mirrors should be wiped
carefully, make sure no lint remains on the mirror.

Focusing mirrors are well protected, so their cleaning procedure may be

necessary in some cases.
