Welcome To NIT Goa

The National Institute of Technology Goa is a premier technical Institute

in the region. NIT Goa was established in the year 2010 by an act of the
parliament (NIT act 2007), and it is declared an “Institute of National
Importance.” NIT Goa is an autonomous Institute functioning under the
aegis of the Ministry of Education (ME), Govt. of India. The campus is
located at Farmagudi, Ponda, approximately 28 km southeast of Panaji,
the capital of Goa.
NIT Goa started its academics in 2010 with three engineering departments-
1. Computer Science and Engineering 2. Electronics and Communication
Engineering, and 3. Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the
undergraduate level. Also, NIT Goa started its M.Tech Courses in CSE, VLSI,
Power Electronics, and Power Systems in 2014. In 2018, NIT Goa started two
new undergraduate courses viz, Civil Engineering and Mechanical
Engineering.
NIT Goa attracts students from all over the country and abroad. The
Institute admits students into the B.Tech degree program based on ranks
obtained in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE Mains since 2013 and the
scheme of Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) and M.Tech Post-
Graduation program and Ph.D. Admission based on GATE score.

Established in 2010, the National Institute of Technology Goa is continuously thriving

for excellence in teaching and research. The Institute aims at providing quality
education and producing people equipped with the necessary skills to work in this
fast-changing world.
The Institute has taken adequate care in terms of building a solid foundation for
the students. The students have been exposed to fundamental courses in terms
of analytical and computing skills. With the emphasis on problem-solving and
laboratory projects in small teams, they are prepared to work deeply in the real-
world working environment.
It is a matter of great pride for this young Institute that many of the research
works undertaken by students and faculty communities have been accepted
in reputed International journals and conferences. Many of our innovations

INSTITUTE OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE
NIT Goa distinguishes itself not only as another
institute that encompasses engineering courses but as
one of the institutes of national importance by virtue
of an act of parliament. The idea of creating better

E N G I N E E R I N G

The Department of Civil Engineering was

established in the year 2018. It offers a diverse

range of courses that will equip the students

with skills and knowledge before entering

the workforce. The department also focuses

on research and development, as well as

entrepreneurship. They accomplish a wide range

of tasks from planning, designing structures,

building roads, and maintaining them. They use

their understanding of construction methods and materials to develop projects that comply
with safety regulations, have a minimum environmental impact, and are sustainable in the
long term. They are also trained to use software such as AutoCAD and Midas. Faculty

expertise includes Structural analysis, Development of sustainable materials, Artificial

Intelligence and Machine learning, 3D printing, Hybrid geosynthetics for soil slopes,
sustainability and expert systems in geotechnical engineering, and Model foundations
studies.

COMPUTER SCIENCE
E N G I N E E R I N G

The Department of Computer Science and

Engineering of NIT Goa is one of the founding

departments of the institute, started in 2010.

It offers four years of full-time B. Tech degree

program and two years of full-time M. Tech.

Degree program and Ph.D. program in Computer
Science and Engineering. The faculty members

of the CSE department have expertise in the

following areas: mobile computing, machine

learning, data mining, wireless sensor networks, information security, network security,
cryptography, cloud security, key management, content-based information retrieval,
pattern recognition, machine learning, computer vision, algorithms, computational

intelligence, privacy and security, network protocols and wireless networks. The faculty
members have published several research papers in these areas in national and

international conferences and journals.

The Electronics and Communication

Department of NIT Goa was established in 2010.
It offers B. Tech, M.Tech. in VLSI, and a Ph.D.
program in Electronics and Communication
Engineering. The department’s goal is to
impart theoretical and practical knowledge in
Electronics and Communication Engineering
to students to enable them for technology and
research. The department covers the following
major areas in Electronics and Communication Engineering through its courses and
projects: VLSI, Communication and Networking, Signal Processing, Microelectronics and
Electronics Design, and Electromagnetics. Faculty members in the ECE department are
committed to teaching and research. They try to cultivate interest in students for research
and technology. The department also has essential softwares like Cadence, Visual TCAD,
Mentor Graphics, Xilinx, Synopsys, MATLAB, PSPICE, and KEIL.

ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONICS

The Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Department was formed during the institute’s
founding in 2010. It provides B.Tech. and
research programs in Electrical and Electronics
Engineering and M.Tech in Power Electronics
and Power Systems. The faculty members are
committed to providing the finest possible
education for the students. The significant areas
of faculty expertise include Power Systems,
Power Electronics, Power Electronic Drives, HVDC Transmission, FACTS Controllers, Electrical
Machines, Control Systems, Smart Grid, Signal Processing, Energy Management, Neural
Networks, and Application of Signal Processing in Power Systems and Power Electronics.
Their research is being published in leading international journals and conferences. The lab
facilities and the infrastructure are regularly upgraded and are well supported by the
institute and the industry.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was

founded in 2018. It provides a B.Tech curriculum.
The faculty members are dedicated to providing
high-quality education. Design for Assembly,
Applied Ergonomics, Single phase, multi-
phase, Micro and Nano heat transfer, Multi-
Phase Flow, Fracture Mechanics, Cryogenic
Deformation, Tribology, Renewable Energy
Applications, Supply Chain Management, and
Non-Conventional Machining are among the critical areas of expertise. The department’s
research has been published in prestigious international journals and conferences. The
students are trained to use software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS, Arduino
Programming, and CNC Programming. The lab facilities and the infrastructure are
regularly upgraded. The department actively engages the students to participate in
various conferences/ competitions. The department periodically organizes workshops,
lab/industrial visits, and talks by eminent personalities in the emerging areas of
Mechanical Engineering.

HUMANITIES & SOCIAL SCIENCES

The department is interdisciplinary and offers English, Economics, and Engineering Ethics
courses. These courses are primarily required to provide a foundation and broad
background in Professional Communication, Engineering/Managerial Economics, and a
few Mandatory Learning Courses (MLC) like Environmental Studies and Professional Ethics
and Human Values. A course structure that integrates science and humanities with core
engineering courses and the availability of program electives provides greater flexibility in
making choices, ensuring rational and creative thinking among the students.

APPLIED SCIENCES
The Department of Applied Sciences at NIT Goa is multidisciplinary, with three disciplines
now offered: physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Faculty members in the department
are dedicated to teaching, research, and other co-curricular activities. The department
aims to provide engineering graduates with a solid foundation in the Basic Sciences and
Language and to help them achieve their potential as great engineers. The department’s
ultimate goal is to provide a value-based liberal education to aspiring engineers while
preparing them to address rising global concerns.

Ayush Kumar Singh (20EEE1038) published research paper at ICSIC JORDAN also wrote a chapter
on Machine Learning and Metaheuristics: Methods and Analysis”, in the book series Algorithms
for Intelligent Systems of Springer Nature.

Our 2023 batch has been successful in obtaining 25 employment offers from a range of prestigious
Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

The Institute paces its technical

education with many of its well-

equipped computing laboratories.

These life-lines of the Institute

manages all the computational and

network services. NIT Goa has an

extensive fiber optic network over

the entire campus. In addition to

the computing facilities, there are

labs equipped with latest

experimental setups to aid the

understanding and

implementation of various

experiments. Well qualified Lab

assistants along with the professors

are present at all times during the

lab sessions. The Institute possess

neoteric classrooms, lecture halls

and conference hall. Each one of

HOSTEL AND SPORTS: The Institute
campus houses three hostels for
boys and one for girls. The hostels
are Wi-Fi enabled and well-

Goa is an ideal destination for many of us, with appealing lush

green mountains, the horizonless sea, and the cool breeze which
makes everyone at ease. Students enjoy various activities apart
from their curricula, such as sports, dance, music, and
entertainment. They actively participate in several technical,
cultural, and sporting events such as Inter-NIT competitions,
CULTRANG (fest hosted by IIT Goa), and Happenings (hosted by
GEC). The students of NIT Goa are also involved in the overall
organization of the inter-NIT competitions, thus spreading the
idea of cooperation and mutual harmony.

Spectra is the official ECE Students Council of NIT Goa,
founded in 2014. The club aims to bring all the ECE
department students on a single platform where they can
showcase their talents in various technical and cultural
events organized by the club.

The Civil Engineering Students Council (CESCO) was

started in the year 2019 by the Civil Engineering students
of NIT GOA. Started with the aim of providing exposure of
various fieldwork and site operations to the students , the
club has arranged various site visits to industries and
important structures such as Zuari Bridge, Water
treatment plant, new campus of NIT Goa etc.

T E S L A
TESLA is NIT Goa’s oldest official student association, formed
on March 2, 2012, by the Department of Electrical and
Electronics Engineering. The association hopes to guide
students toward a brighter technical future and make them
capable engineers through numerous training programs,
workshops, field trips, and other activities.

Mechanical Engineering Technical Association(META), META is
formed with the primary objective of exposing the aspiring
mechanical engineers to the practical aspects and professional
challenges for their sustainable growth. META provides a platform

Coding Club NIT Goa fosters an environment where students

are able to compete and test their coding skills at the same
time learn and grow together. The club has over 200 members
on the Discord server. It has been very active in conducting

official students' association of the Department of Computer
Science and Engineering. The association, formed in 2022 and

GDSC

Google Developer Student Clubs (GDSC) is a program

initiated by Google that aims to cultivate a community of
student developers on university campuses worldwide. The
program provides students with the resources,
mentorship, and opportunities to learn and gain practical
experience in various technology domains.

TRAINING & PLACEMENT CELL

The Training and Placement Cell (T&P) of the institute is endowed with the
responsibility to cater to the training and placement needs of its elite
students. Run and managed by an efficient team of professors, office staff,
and students, the T&P cell handles all aspects of placement/internship at
NIT Goa. It invites companies for campus recruitment, organizing pre-
placement talks, interviews, and corporate interaction.
Under the Training and Placement Cell, an efficient team mentors the
aspiring students to enhance their technical, interpersonal, managerial,
and leadership skills with soft-skill development programs, mock
interviews, and tests. It helps the students to plan their professional careers
and groom themselves with the skill set demanded by the industry.

PLACEMENT PROCEDURE

01 Training & Placement cell invites companies to the campus.

Interested companies fill out the JAF (Job Announcement Form) and
submit it to the Training & Placement Cell.

The JAF is made available to students, along with company information

03 such as dates, packages, etcetera.

The resumes are made available to the companies for prior shortlisting,
04 if required.

05 Shortlisted candidates are notified prior to the campus selection date.

Placement Cell allots dates for campus interviews at the institute as

06 per mutual convenience.

Companies visit the campus, takes Ppt/tests/interviews/GDs, and furnish

07 a final list of selected and waitlisted candidates to the placement cell.

Selected students are registered against the jobs. Any dropout from the
08 main list will enable the movement of the waitlisted candidates to the list
of selected candidates as per the policy of the company.

batch(2023). The Placement percentage of
circuit branches(CSE, ECE, EEE) 100% with an
average of approx. 13 Lpa. Also, the second
batch of two budding branches(CVC and MCE)
has shown increment in competitive average
package to around 8 Lpa(not included in the
overall average package).

The training and placement cell gives exposure and
opportunity to companies and students by assisting them
in conducting lecture talks, tests, competitions, and
interviews. Our students have done internships in
industries and universities. This exposure to real-world
situations makes the students more confident in making
independent decisions. Many students become aware of
internship and research opportunities in India and abroad.
Many industries provide Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs)
based on students’ performance during the internship
period. It is commendable that the National Institute of
Technology Goa has seen engineers budding exceptionally

RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS
Our students have participated in R&D activities of some
of the significant technology institutes of India like IISc
Bangalore, BARC, DRDO, BEL, and various top IITs and
NITs. Regarding international Scholarships and research
internships, NIT Goa feels proud to send some of its

NIT Goa Campus is located at Farmagudi, Ponda, Goa.

Farmagudi is located on a plateau 3 km from central Ponda City on the way towards Panaji.

Ponda is a city and a municipal council in the North Goa district in the Indian state of Goa. It
is located in the central part of Goa. Ponda city lies about 28 km southeast of Panaji and 17

km northeast of Margao. It is also the capital of Ponda Taluka. Ponda is well connected by

road to Panaji (Capital of Goa) and the main railway junction of Margao.

AIRWAY
Goa’s nearest airport, the Dabolim Airport in Vasco, caters to Domestic and International
airlines that stop route to other Indian destinations. It is at a distance of around 30km (45

min ride) from the institute.

RAILWAY
Goa has two rail lines - one run by the South Western Railway and the other by the Konkan

Railway. The closest major railway station is Madgaon Railway Station which is around

20km (30 min ride) from the institute.
