La Diablada de Píllaro
A celebration that takes place in the province of Tungurahua from January 1–
6. The festival features thousands of people dancing in the streets as devils,
guarichas, and capariches.
Carnival
A celebration that takes place in February or March before Lent. Ecuadorians eat
and drink to prepare for the fasting period of Lent.
Semana Santa
A Catholic holiday that takes place in April and commemorates the biblical events
of Calvary of Christ.
Inti Raymi
A festival that takes place between June 21–24 and is celebrated throughout the
country. The festival is a celebration of the sun and a time to give thanks for the
good harvests.
Paseo del Chagra
A festival that takes place in Machachi, a cowboy town near Cotopaxi National
Park. The festival features parades of colorful floats organized by local ranches,
as well as a rodeo.
Fiesta de los Reyes Magos
A celebration that takes place on the day of the Epiphany. The festival features
processions through the streets of many Andean villages.
La Mama Negra
A festival that takes place in September and November.
El Festival Yamor
A festival that takes place in September and is also known as the Festival del
Maiz.
Cacería Del Zorro
A foxhunt that takes place in Ibarra from October 1–8.
