6. Electric potential inside a conducting sphere:

(a) is zero (b) is a negative quantity
(c) is zero (d) is a positive quantity

Directions: In the following questions, a statement of Assertion (A) is followed by

a statement of Reason (R). Mark the correct choice as:
(a) Both Assertion (A) and Reason (R) are true, and Reason (R) is the correct
explanation of Assertion (A).
(b) Both Assertion (A) and Reason (R) are true, but Reason (R) is not the correct
explanation of Assertion (A).
(c) Assertion (A) is true, but Reason (R) is false.
(d) Assertion (A) is false, but Reason (R) is true.

7. Assertion (A): Electric field is always normal to equipotential surfaces and along the
direction of decreasing order of potential.
Reason (R): Negative gradient of electric potential is electric field.

8. Assertion (A): A negative charge in an electric field moves opposite direction of the
electric field.
Reason (R): On a negative charge a force acts in the opposite direction of the electric field.

SECTION – B
9. Depict the orientation of an electric dipole in (a) stable and (b) unstable equilibrium in
an external uniform electric field. Write the potential energy of the dipole in each case.
10. Three-point charges 𝑄, 𝑞 and −𝑞 are kept at the vertices of an equilateral triangle of
side 𝐿 as show in figure. What is

(i) the electrostatic potential energy of the arrangement? And

(ii) the potential at point D?

11. An electric flux of −3 × 10−14 𝑁𝑚2 /𝐶 passes through a spherical Gaussian surface is
caused by a point charge. Compute the point charge’s value.

12. Deduce an expression for the potential energy of a system of two points charges 𝑞1 and
𝑞2 located at positions 𝑟̂1 and 𝑟̂2 respectively in an external field 𝐸⃗ .

between the plates is doubled and a dielectric slab of thickness 5𝑚𝑚 and dielectric
constant 10 is introduced between the plates. Explain the reason, how the (i) capacitance,
(ii) electric field between the plates, (iii) energy density of the capacitor will change?

15. Two small identical electric dipoles 𝐴𝐵 and 𝐶𝐷, each of dipole moment 𝑝̂ are kept at
an angle of 1200 to each other in an external electric field 𝐸⃗ pointing along the x-axis as
