TRADE SUMMARY
October-December, 2022

EXPORTS
The total exports of Pakistan during Oct-Dec, 2022 amounted to Rs. 1,574,023.11 million showing
a decrease of 1.86 % over Jul-Sep, 2022 and increased by 11.26% over Oct-Dec, 2021. In terms of US
dollar, the export during Oct-Dec, 2022 amounted to $ 7073.55 million showing a decrease of 1.35% over
Jul-Sep, 2022 and 12.98% over Oct-Dec, 2021.

Export during Jul-Dec, 2021 totaled Rs. 3,177,896.85 million showing an increase of 24.05% over
the corresponding period of last year. While in terms of US dollars, exports stand at $ 14,243.1 million
showing a decrease of 5.83% over the corresponding period of last year.

IMPORTS

The total imports of Pakistan during Oct-Dec, 2022 amounted to Rs. 3,312,595.94 million showing
a decrease of 9.25% over Jul-Sep, 2022 and 12.90% over Oct-Dec, 2021. In terms of US dollar, the imports
during Oct-Dec, 2022 amounted to $14,879.84 million showing a decrease of 8.87% over Jul-Sep, 2022
and 31.89% over Oct-Dec, 2021.
Import during Jul-Dec, 2021 totaled Rs. 6,962,865.05 million showing an increase of 1.27% over
the corresponding period of last year. In terms of US dollars, Imports stand at stands at $31,208.51 million
showing a decrease of 23.06% over the corresponding period of last year.

TOTAL TRADE
The total trade of Pakistan during Oct-Dec, 2022 amounted to Rs. 4,886,619.05 million showing
a decreased of 6.99% over Jul-Sep, 2022 and 6.35% over Oct-Dec, 2021. In terms of US dollar, the total
trade during Oct-Dec, 2022 amounted to $21,953.39 million showing a decrease of 6.58% over
Jul-Sep, 2022 and 26.76% over Oct-Dec, 2021.

Total trade during Jul-Dec, 2021 totaled Rs. 10,140,761.90 million showing an increase of 7.46%
over the corresponding period of last year. In terms of US dollars, total trade stands at $45,452.22 million
showing a decrease of 18.38%.

BALANCE OF TRADE

Balance of trade in Oct-Dec, 2022 was unfavorable to Pakistan to the tune of Rs. 1,738,572.83
million equivalents to US $7,806.29 million, whereas during the period of Jul-Dec, 2021 it was
unfavorable to the tune of 2,046,295.36 million rupees equivalent to US $ 9,158.51 million.

CHAPTER-I

I – EXPORT BY GROUP/COMMODITIES

Food Group
During Oct-Dec, 2022 export of goods belonging to Food Group increased by 26.30% over
Jul-Sep, 2022 and 3.35% over Oct-Dec, 2021. Food Group contributed 11.71% of total exports.

The export of food group during Jul-Dec, 2022 increased by 15.74% compared to the same period
of last year. This Group contributed 10.40% of total export during Jul-Dec, 2022.

Textile Group
During Oct-Dec, 2022 export of Textile goods decreased by 10.78% over Jul-Sep, 2022 and
increased by 6.14% over Oct-Dec, 2021. Textile Group contributed 55.65% of total exports.

The export of textile group increased by 22.42% for the period of Jul-Dec, 2021 compared to the
same period of last year. Textile Group contributed 58.45% of total exports during Jul-Dec, 2022.

Manufactures Group
During Oct-Dec, 2022 export of manufactured goods increased by 0.60% over Jul-Sep, 2022 and
by 35.29% over Oct-Dec, 2021. Manufactures Group contributed 7.07% of total exports.

Export for manufacture group during Jul-Dec, 2021 increased by 44.71% compared to the same
period of last year. Manufacture Group contributed 6.98% of total exports during Jul-Dec, 2022.

II – DIRECTION OF EXPORTS

During Oct-Dec, 2022 country-wise U. S. A. was at the top of the export list followed by China,
United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates. Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Afghanistan, Italy, and Belgium.
The share of these ten countries in total exports for Oct-Dec, 2022 was 66.00% as against 67.02% in
Oct-Dec, 2021.

During Jul-Dec, 2022 Country-wise, U.S.A. was at the top of the exports list followed by China,
United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Spain, Italy, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
The share of these ten countries in total exports for Jul-Dec, 2022 was 65.48% as against 66.40% in the
same period of last year.

III – EXPORT BY ECONOMIC CATEGORIES

Export of Primary Commodities during Oct-Dec, 2022 increased by 9.57%, Semi- Manufactures
decreased by 13.02% and Manufactured Goods increased by 13.68% over Oct-Dec, 2021. Whereas, their
share in total export stands at 16.28%, 5.10% and 78.61% respectively for Oct-Dec, 2022.
Exports of Primary Commodities during Jul-Dec, 2022 increased by 19.13%, Semi-Manufactures
by 4.45% and Manufactured Goods increased by 26.70%. Whereas, their respective share in total export
for the period of Jul-Dec, 2022 stood at 14.64%, 5.66% and 79.70%.

CHAPTER-II

I – IMPORTS BY GROUPS/COMMODITIES

Food Group
During Oct-Dec, 2022 import of goods belonging to Food Group decreased by 5.98% over
Jul-Sep, 2022 and increased by 53.20% over Oct-Dec, 2021. This group contributed 10.32% of total
imports.
The import of food group during Jul-Dec, 2022 increased by 60.77% compared to the same period
of last year. This group contributed 10.13% of total imports during Jul-Dec, 2022.

Machinery & Transport Group

During Oct-Dec, 2022 import of goods belonging to Machinery & Transport group decreased by
14.81% over Jul-Sep, 2022 and 39.56% over Oct-Dec, 2021. This group contributed 13.52% of total
imports.

The import of goods belonging to Machinery & Transport group during Jul-Dec, 2022 decreased
by 29.78% compared to the same period of last year. This group contributed 13.98% of total import during
Jul-Dec, 2022.

Petroleum Group

During Oct-Dec, 2022 import of goods belonging to Petroleum group decreased by 13.88% over
Jul-Sep, 2022 and increased by 2.60% over Oct-Dec, 2021. This group contributed 21.75% of total
imports.

The import of petroleum group during Jul-Dec, 2022 increased by 23.11% compared to the same
period of last year. This group contributed 22.36% of total imports during Jul-Dec, 2022.

Textile Group

During Oct-Dec, 2022 import of goods belonging to textile group decreased by 7.52% over
Jul-Sep 2022 and 0.45% over Oct-Dec, 2021. This group contributed 1.89% of total imports.

The import of Textile group during Jul-Dec, 2022 decreased by 6.88% compared to the same
period of last year. This group contributed 1.87% of total imports during Jul-Dec, 2022.

Chemical Group

During Oct-Dec, 2022 import of goods belonging to Chemical group decreased by 4.19% over
Jul-Sep, 2022 and 28.49% over Oct-Dec, 2021. This group contributed 17.04% of total imports.

The import of chemical group during Jul-Dec, 2022 decreased by 14.62% compared to the same
period of last year. This group contributed 16.57% of total imports during Jul-Dec, 2022.

Metal Group

During Oct-Dec, 2022 export of Metal products decreased by 7.46% over Jul-Sep, 2022 and
31.66% over Oct-Dec, 2021. This group contributed 5.60% of total imports.

The import of metal group during Jul-Dec, 2022 decreased by 17.91% compared to the same
period of last year. This group contributed 5.54% of total imports during Jul-Dec, 2022.

Miscellaneous Group

During Oct-Dec, 2022 exports of miscellaneous commodities slightly increased by 3.31% over
Jul-Sep, 2022 and 1.36% over Oct-Dec, 2021. This group contributed 1.07% of total imports.

The import of miscellaneous group during Jul-Dec, 2022 increased by 4.45% compared to the
same period of last year. This group contributed 1.00% of total imports during Jul-Dec, 2022.

II – DIRECTION OF IMPORTS

During Oct-Dec, 2022 Country-wise China was at the top of the import list for Oct-Dec, 2022 followed
by United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Qatar, Kuwait, U.S.A., Morocco, Afghanistan and Japan. The
share of these ten countries in total imports for Oct-Dec, 2022 was 66.76% as against 66.54% in Oct-Dec, 2021.
During Jul-Dec, 2022 Country-wise China was on the top of the import list followed by United Arab
Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Qatar, Kuwait, U.S.A, Morocco, Afghanistan and Japan during Jul-Dec, 2021.
The combined share of these ten countries in total imports during this period was 66.96% as against their
combined share of 66.52% during the corresponding period of last year.

III – IMPORTS BY ECONOMIC CATEGORIES

Imports of Consumer Goods during Oct-Dec, 2022 decreased by 30.68%, Raw Material for Consumer
Goods increased by 10.36%, Capital Goods decreased by 31.49% and Raw Material for Capital Goods
decreased by 18.94% over Oct-Dec, 2021. Their respective share in total imports were 19.96%, 51.77%,
18.72 % and 9.56% respectively for Oct-Dec, 2022.

Imports of Consumer Goods during Jul-Dec, 2022 decreased by 14.15%, Raw Material for Consumer
Goods increased by 21.99%, Capital Goods decreased by 21.10% and Raw Material for Capital Goods decreased
by 3.28% over Jul-Dec, 2021. Their respective share in total imports were 19.42%,51.34%,19.14% and 10.11%
respectively for Jul-Dec, 2021.
