Abstract

Mental health and mental health-related issues have been a matter of concern for

quite a long time. Mental health problems such as anxiety and depression have been steadily

rising among university students in the Philippines. This descriptive and inferential research

aim to identify the mental health issues – anxiety and depression of the students ranging from

1st year to 4th year students across all programs in NORSU- Mabinay Campus. This study will

also determine the implications on academic performance anchoring on the result of the

study in regards to the specified mental health issues. The researchers made use of survey

questionnaire through Google Forms to collect data from the respondents. The following

statistical tools are used to tabulate the data that were gathered: Frequency and Percentage

Distribution, Mean and Spearman Rank. Analyzed data revealed that students of NORSU-

Mabinay Campus have mild depression severity and level of anxiety. The researchers also

concluded that there is no significant relationship between the students’ level of depression

severity and anxiety level of NORSU Mabinay Campus in relation to their academic

performance. The researchers proposed an action treatment plan, this further indicates

counseling the students on how to take care of their mental health and giving emotional

support from a school counselor or licensed psychologist.
