Safety & quality
Safety first
SAFE PRODUCTS, SAFE USAGE
Many of our products are rotating tools that are used at high circumferential speeds, some on manually
operated machines. The tools are subjected to extreme mechanical, and in part also thermal, loads. It
is therefore important that they are continually tested in accordance with the latest safety standards.
Test results are arrived at computer-aided and logged in detail - be it lateral load testing,
fall hammer testing, centrifugal force testing or determination of service life.
Quality management
We are certified to DIN ISO 9001:2015. The certificates are available on our
homepage for downloading. www.osborn.de/en/certificates

Safety & quality
Over 700 products in our retail range for brushes are certified by TÜV-SÜD
(safety tested, production monitored). The products as well as our produc-
tion facilities are checked by independent expert organisation TÜV
SÜD Product Service on the basis of technical safety requirements.

Technical information for brushes
The working width defines the contact surface between brush and work-
piece. To measure the working width, gently press together the trim area.
The clamping width is measured between the covering discs (see picture,
left). Speak to us for more information about the clamping width.
The diameter of the brush (body of the brush) and the length of
the respective trim are the determining factors for the working
characteristics of the brush. Generally applicable:
One of the factors defining the contact pressure of a brush is its penetration depth
at the workpiece. Never press a brush into the workpiece and only work with the
trim tips. Excessive contact pressure lowers the brush performance and expe-
dites wear. For manually operated machines, the recommendation is to only work
with the weight of the machine. For an abrasive trim, a filament diameter of 3 times
applies, e.g. 1.0 mm penetration depth for a filament diameter of 0.35 mm.
The trim density is determined by the number of wire tips per surface unit.
High trim densities optimise cutting performance and useful lives (for debur-
ring work for example). Lower trim densities increase the flexibility of the
brushes and are the prerequisite for processing strongly profiled surfaces.

General information
Determining the
maximum working speed
The maximum working speed of a brush is dependent on its diameter. The wider the diameter of a brush, the lower the maximum
working speed. The maximum working speed has a relevance to safety. It must never be exceeded. This information is on the brush
itself. Additionally you will find below an aid for the most popular angle grinder sizes with their maximum speeds.
Angle grinder size (in mm) Ø 115 mm Ø 125mm Ø 150 mm Ø 180 mm Ø 230 mm
Angle grinder size (in inches) 4 ½" 5" 6" 7" 9"
Max. working speed 12,500 min -1
11,000 min -1
8,500 min -1

Not every brush can be fitted to every angle grinder. There are safety specifica-
tions for this too. To get the best out of your device and brush, please use the angle
grinder sizes specified here for the respective brush (refer to the table).
Important: You must on no account use a smaller angle grinder size than specified here. For our
retail packs, the suitable angle grinder size is generally on the packaging itself, with symbol.

General information
MMA, TIG/MIG/MAG and plasma welding techniques leave different debris and inclusions on the surface
of the weld seam. Slag, spatters, silicates and blue discolouring must be removed. If the welded part is not
optimally cleaned, faults/defects in the coating and corrosion can occur in the area of the inclusions.
Dronco and Osborn can offer you the right cleaning tool for every welding technique and type of seam
treated (root and closure welds, fill layers). In the product range for this work, we have brushes as well
as roughing, flap and polishing flap discs, coarse cleaning fleeces, and carbide cutters.

sample processing
If you are unsure whether you have already found the ideal
tool for your industrial machining process, we recommend
our parts and sample processing service. This is an excellent
opportunity to put the quality of your tools currently in use
to the test and, if necessary, replace them with a tool that is
more suitable for the application.
We will work with you to determine the ideal tools for machi-
ning your sample parts. Depending on the task at hand, this
may involve a standard product or a custom-made tool. We
then agree on the parameters that are most important for
you when machining the workpiece. After we have received
the sample parts from you and, if necessary, the current
tools to be tested, we get to work in our test laboratory.
We can process a wide variety of components. For this Even complex workpiece geometries are no obstacle.

BRUSH TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRIAL
Punched brushes
Punched brushes
Punched brushes are extremely versatile and can be precisely matched to the application. This applies
in particular to the wide range of outside diameters and installation widths. Due to the plastic or wooden
bodies used, a significantly lower dead weight can be achieved compared to metal body brushes, which
has a positive effect on the required drive power of the brush system. Individual holes are drilled in the
body in a fixed pattern and the bristle material is punched in. The number of holes in the brush body and
their spacing from each other ultimately determine the fill density of the brush.
Punched brushes are therefore used in a lower speed range and are suitable for both dry and wet
applications. For applications in the food industry bodies and bristles are available that meet exactly
these requirements.
We offer disc brushes, lath brushes and wheel/roller brushes in punched shape. A specialty are our
Multizack roller brushes, which you will find at the end of the chapter. Here, standardized individual
segments with a width of 100 mm can be assembled as required to form longer roller brushes. For
example, long roller brushes can be conveniently shipped and stored in cardboard boxes, and worn
individual segments can be easily replaced.
ADVANTAGES
• Variable outside diameters and working widths
• Variable fill densities
• Wide range of bristles and wires
• Almost infinite configuration possibilities
• Low dead weight
• Good price-performance ratio

Punched brushes
Disc brushes are used in a wide variety of industries and sectors when flat surfaces or
geometrically demanding components are to be machined. Disc brushes with abrasive
bristles are mainly used for deburring of components with machined surfaces or for
flat parts. It is necessary that the disc brushes are used with a component overlap
of approx. 20 of the brush diameter in order to achieve an effective and consistent
Appearance can vary from picture deburring result. It is also important to match the disc brushes with the correct speed to
depending on variant. the corresponding brush diameter. As an example, a disc brush with Ø 150 mm should
be used at approx. 1,100 - 1,200 rpm.
The area in the center of a disc brush, free and not filled with bristles, the so-called free
center“ is necessary so that the difference in circumferential speed from the outer to
the center of the brush is not too great. Which ensures stable processing and uniform
wear of bristles and wires.

Are you familiar with the latest regulations relating to the EU guidelines
for protecting workers against noise and vibrations?
Thanks to the U5 protect, responsible employers can provide their staff with a tool
that significantly reduces disruptive factors that pose a risk to health. A reduction
in the noise level of minus 10 db(A) halves the volume. Thanks to an ingenious
high-tech core, the U5 protect decreases the sound level by more than 50%. This
also makes cutting operations much more comfortable in the area surrounding
the construction site. A further bonus for the user is the noticeable reduction in
vibration levels. Together, these two factors add up to an effective method of
protecting the user’s health – without any loss in performance.
