STUDENT NAME: Laura-Jayne Meades TUTOR NAME: Ady Evans 1. Title and Pitch A clear, brief title which can be modified at a later date if necessary but which gives clear idea of the nature of the project. 'Locked-In'. (Working Title)
2. Pitch Sum up your idea in two lines. Include the genre, format, duration, usp (unique selling point) and intended audience.
A 5-7min dramatic film about a young man called Nick who after being involved in an accident is left with a rare form of paralysis known as Locked-In Syndrome. The unique selling point is the use of mixed media, both film and photography. It is aimed at a mature audience due to violent scenes and strong language. 'Locked-In' will explore the issue of Locked-In Syndrome as well as looking into the breakdown of relationships. I intend to approach this subject sensitively and stylistically use photos and narration to further the plot including ambient soundscapes. 'Locked-In' will pose the questions of the breakdown of a relationship and if a simple connection between two people can last the test of time. It will also ask if you had committed an act of cruelty on someone and been left with this condition as a result would you be able to cope with your body being your prison. I have looked at F.Stop, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and The Entire History of You as inspiration for my style, story and characters. These films have been successful in their own ways but I haven't found evidence of this idea been done in the direction I wish to
3. Rationale A brief description of the main issue/subject which your project will examine and the approach you intend to take.
4. Context What question/s does your PROJECT answer or what new idea does it offer? Where does your PROJECT fit in the current Media environment? Give evidence of the research and opinion that support your claims.
take and therefore could also be successful on its own merits. 5. Distribution Where do you think your PROJECT is going to play/reach an audience? Show evidence of your research into LIKELY sources of distribution. I have briefly looked into student film festivals and further afield. I believe that the best approach to take would be to start off small and let it gain audience at its own momentum due to the nature and style of the piece. If well received I will look more in depth into larger film festivals for submission. 'Locked-In' will require a small budget which will consist of camera hire, actor payment, props, costume and a possible budget for locations. The majority of these can be sourced for free so I shall mainly be using my budget on equipment. I have estimated 500 for my budget but this is the maximum and will most likely be spending much less. I feel that I am the best person to make this film as I have previous experience with stop motion, animation and photography based films and as well as having a strong passion for this medium I am also very patient and realise that postproduction will most likely be the most time consuming in order for this film to look its best.
6. Budget and Skills Audit Give a realistic budget breakdown of your project and make sure you can afford to make it. Also explain here why you are the right person to be making this project what skills, knowledge and experience will you be capitalising on?
